I'm in a horrible mood, please cheer me up
With the impending inauguration I have been doing some thinking and it feels like November 2nd all over again. I've lost a lot of friends over the election and I have thought to myself why? It seems so senseless, but whenever I find out a friend of mine voted for * or is into setting their religion (christianity in all cases) upfront because they are "sick of the PC-ness", or is completely against gay marriage, or a woman's choice, I don't want to have anything to do with them. However, this is THEIR opinion. Why can't I separate the two?? It's very, very hard for me to do, has had me down for the past few days.

Now that * is about become World Dictator yet again, I've fallen into a little bit of a depression, and frankly I am not sure how to handle it. I just feel a bit, hopeless, as many of you do, I am sure.

How are you handling it?

1. About the same as you. Get depressed at times. Not under-
standing how or why people are so out of touch, ambivalent, don't seem to care.

This administration would never have gotten away with the things it does when you used to have a media.

A real media not one that plays like it is a media. One that asked hard questions, did investigative reporting. etc.

We had a public that gave a dam what happened to others not just themselves.

However, we will all get through this and I believe what goes around comes around and it will be our time again.

15. I really hope you're right
but in my heart I get a sinking feeling we won't be able to pull out of this. I just hope we can. All this moral values baloney nowadays has me wondering exactly how good our chances are.

5. Alcohol was what I did for the first four years...
I have no idea how I'm going to get through the next four.

8. I'm trying to avoid alcohol
I have many urges to drink as a result of having drunk myself into a stupor back in my college days and I rarely drink because of it. Plus I have a liver problem (fatty liver).

11. Good idea!
My goal was to be drunk enough for the first four years that I would think that the West Wing was real. Sadly, it didn't actually work.

Well, watch a lot of Democracy Now! It'll remind you that there are a lot of good people still out there.

6. Here want something to drink ?
I know the feeling . I am wearing my black hoodie Thursday in protest . I find it hard to talk to anyone who is a Bush supporter now because now they really think they are big and bad and its gotten to the point that I can't be civil anymore . I can't stand any of the right wing lot . Watching all of these preparations for the ignaguration reminds me of being in HS and seeing all the cool kids talk about their party and I am not invited but I still have to hear about it .

9. For me it's the loss of friends that bugs me
but at the same time I cannot control the anger I have whenever I hear someone has voted for the Imperial Dumbass because of either their a, tax break, or 2, because they think he's god in this so-called freakin War on Terror. Whatever...

I'm making black armbands for Thursday and we're not spending ONE penny.

I'm waiting on word to see if a childhood friend of mine is going to get orders to Iraq. I haven't heard from her since Christmas. :(

18. Tell him not to go!
Sorry, I know people will hate me, but I say it's time for freaking jail before supporting this utter BS anymore. Your boyfriend has the ability to tell George Jr. to go f*ck himself.

Is there any way to do such a thing without ruining your life? Seriously? Can you claim some kind of conciencious ojection or something? Say, "I'd gladly go fight for my country in a war that was just, but not in this utter BS."

Sorry, I'm sure I sound like an @sshole, but I don't wanna see anyone else die.

22. That's the first thing I brought up : being a Consciencious Objector
but that was in July when he got the orders . But he wants to be with his friends and his unit . I don't know what to say . My mind has been blank ever since I found out .

I'm sure it's incredibly tough for both of you. I know how tight those groups can get, so it makes sense that their loyalty to each other will outweight one member's objection to the war.

We'll have both of you in our thoughts and prayers! (and we'll be working to get the hell outta there!)

14. Yeah, I've had to stop talking politics with friends for the most part...
but that really started in the first term when George Jr. took us to war.

People are stupid what can you do? At least I can understand the tax cut angle (though I think it's horrible!), I can't understand how anyone can actually think, however, that this imbicille is doing a good job.

If they're good friends you don't want to lose, just act very condescending to them telling them that you feel sorry for them because they are so ignorant and/or naive. That at least might make you feel a little better. That's what I do, particularly with co-workers.

Good luck!

19. See I don't even get the tax cut thing
because something I have come very aware of over the past year is how there are so many folks in this country without medical insurance or money to put food on the table for their families. That truly bothers me because I have been there (poverty, no food) and am doing that (no medical insurance). It bugs me to know there are people out there making $250k a year bitching about a damned tax break, but yet there are folks out there making under $20k a year and having a hard time making ends meet, just living paycheck to paycheck. It's beyond wrong in my opinion.

10. Why would you WANT to separate the two?
Edited on Tue Jan-18-05 07:35 PM by Hardhead
Maybe I'm fortunate that I know other flaming liberals. I have two sets of republicans: those I absolutely have to get along with, and those who can kiss my hairy little ass. Most of them fall into the second category. I dish accordingly.

Edit: oops, I forgot to try to cheer you up. Cheer up, dude or dudette. :D Seriously, good friends are where you find them. Tune out the takers and tune in the givers.

12. Maybe because I don't know many liberal people where I live
(which is a rural conservative area!) and also because my family and my in-laws consist of repukes. Mr. Biased LIberal Media doesn't have the same passion in his blood as I do, but he's liberal as well...I don't know if I could have stayed married to him had he been gung-ho for *.

I want to separate the two because I'm tired of living life like this. I just want to live peacefully, what's so wrong with that?

23. Yes
If DU was not here I think maybe I would go nuts trying to find another person to commiserate with.

Funny, when I helped some folks rally for Kerry on Election Day, I felt so damned relieved to finally meet some Dems/liberals in my town!!! I haven't heard from them in a LONG time though. :(

But things have a tendency of working themselves out.

All we need to do is put more energy into getting Dems elected into local office.

I just wish the Dems in office would grow some balls. Boxer, man, I like her. She's fiesty and she's not taking crap. I just wish others would wake up. Why did it take so long for Dems to denounce this gay marriage ban??
