Poll question: Are sports fans more Democrats, Republicans, split even, or in between? |
|
What would you guess?
I'm not really talking about people who actually participate in sports (that could be a different poll), but the ones who are more likely to be avid TV sports fans....or more apt to be in a sports bar or arena watching their favorite sport.

1. I was at a Lakers game recently. |
|
Here in LA, Democrat central right? They always show celebs on the jumbo-tron during time-outs, and the blase crowd claps mildly. When I was there last month they showed Michael Moore and the audience immediately booed. Loud.
My friend and I discussed this at length, trying to figure out why he would be booed in Los Angeles- were sports fans more Republican, basically.
In the end we decided that the people who wanted to boo felt empowered to do so (by their recent electoral success) and the people who wanted to cheer were spooked into sitting quiet.
Which is actually quite a bit scarier than the idea that sports fans might tilt a bit right wing.
Incidently, he was there with Larry David. Who the event producer obviosly didn't recognize, or he'd have been on the Jumbo-tron too.

is a perfect example of a repuke concept. I didn't see the "over 99.9% repuke" option that should be there.

if most fans are Republican or Democrats.
Here's what I do know.
The two teams that hold the current championships in the only two team sports that matter, Baseball and Football, hail from the bluest of all the blue states in America.
MASSACHUSETTS.

5. It's the whole macho mentality. |
|
The whole chest-thumping, jingoistic, rootin'-tootin' mentality of the most hardcore sports fans is quite consistent with being a Republican.
(I do my fair share of paying attention to sports -- although not so much lately since the NHL lockout started :( ).
