a lot of good singers around selling CDS. A couple of weeks ago, NBC showed the United Negro College Fund, salute to Quincy Jones. OMG!!!! I was in rapture. Great singers beginning with Lou Rawls, Nancy Wilson, Baby Face, Brian McKnight, James Ingrahm, Freda Payne, Stevie Wonder. It was so awesome because unfortunately "singers" are very much under-appreciated in today's popular culture you don't get to see superb singing like that anymore. The only bad "singer" on the program was, Macy Gray. Even Quincy was looking at her like, "what is she doing here?" I almost thought I saw him go to stick his fingers his ears for a second. :D

"vocalists" who actually sing instead of talk to the same old tired percussion rhythms. Singing seems to be a lost art these days. Some people actually appreciate "good" singers. Imagine that?

FANTASTIA, DAMNIT!!!

I don't watch AI. But I saw Fantasia, Rueben and Kelly in November on a holiday special. I saw Clay on a SNL rerun a couple of days ago. I fell in love with Fantasia. She far surpasses the others as a vocalist. I'd give number two ranking to, Kelly.

16. Amen!
and I'm atheist. LOL.

I just love Fantasia...she has so much energy and a wonderful voice too. I find it funny because those who couldn't stand her and wanted Diana to win were usually 1, white and 2, repuke. (well, the ones I knew of or commiserated with on another message board outside of DU with.)

24. Whatever. I don't believe in blind, ignorant loyalty just based on
association.

I prefer to judge all cases/people on a case-by-case basis.

These assclowns aren't artists.

toward people who don't meet your "expectations" a while back. And just how is it that anyone on this thread is following any of these people "blindly?" We are call making our assessments based upon what we've seen and heard with our own eyes. While you are apparently passing judgement on people you have never seen. Because if you had ever heard Fantasia sing, you would know that she is definately an artist. She's gonna get paid too.

27. I said nothing about the people on this thread following blindly
You made the implication - and perhaps it was unintentional, or I misread it - that I should support the artists of American Idol just because I'm an artist.

That's what I was railing against.

if that wasn't what you meant, then I apologize for misreading you.

As to the idols - no, I have to admit, I have not listened to all of them. But I have heard Fantasia. As well as Clay, Hung, and that guy that Clay beat (or that beat Clay).

I don't like any of them.

And yes, I do have very high artistic expectations, and I don't apologize for that at all. I'm sick of the artistic dumbing down of American that has been happening since, well, really since always, but especially since the 70s, with the advent of TV, corporate rock, corporate-owned radio, MTV, The Interstate, and national fast food chains.

I think Kelly is going to have the longest career b/c she has gotten away from her American Idol mode and has mixed up her type of style.

33. I predict, Fantasia will do well on Broadway. She has a Broadway..
type voice. Broadway singers have to be and are very good. Fantasia will fit in nicely. I couldn't see Kelly making in on Broadway.
