Post your addition to the "banished words or phrases" for the year. |
|
My number one right now is "lifestyle".
"Lifestyle" is a perfectly fine word until we start calling EVERYTHING a lifestyle. That hideous AAR commercial about the low-carb candy that talks about living the "low-carb lifestyle", just grates on my last nerve. It's a diet! Not a "lifestyle"!

1. i really hate it when people say "gay/lesbian lifestyle" |
|
i am not living a "lifestyle"! i am living a life. that just happens to be where i have a partner who is a woman.
Others would be: "bring it on", "red/blue state", "flip-flop" and "operation iraqi freedom"

2. (fill in the blank) addiction |
|
when the activity/substance is not narcotic in nature.
I.E, food addiction, sex addiction, porography addiction, shopping addiction, shoplifting addiction (that one really gets to me - saw a bit of Oprah at the Dr's office and she was treating the shoplifter as a "victim"), etc. ad nauseum.

5. kleptomania can be a compulsion |
|
My roommate was a klepto. She was extremely wealthy and her parents gave her anything (I mean, they'd show up for the weekend with a new car for her, things like that) but she could't walk through a supermarket without stealing.
She stole bizarre things she had no intention of using, like raw steaks that she would just throw away. It was a compulsion.
