Hey you guys..anybody heard of =JANET= airways ?
This is pretty weird.

Janets...737's that are mysterious...

They fly out of the main Las Vegas airport from a part of the airport that is not available to the general public. As a matter of fact, if you try to approach the area, you will be arrested.

The Janet Terminal at McCarren Int'l in Vegas. This is where the work force at Area 51 and Area 52 (Tonapah Test Range) are flown to and from work every day and night on those unmarked (no tail numbers) 737's. Perimeter fencing surrounds the unmarked terminal and parking lot and is patrolled by the same "camo dudes" that provide security at Groom Lake. There are anywhere from 10 to 20 flights a day and the planes stay out at Groom Lake until the workers are allowed to return home.
National Geographic did a story on Las Vegas a couple of years ago. The lead photo unknowingly (did they or didn't they?) showed one of the white w/red striped 737's departing the terminal. An informed reader pointed this out in a Letter to the Editor in the next issue. I think they knew what they were publishing.

When you look up the "N" or tail numbers, all of the aircraft are owned by the government. When the government is asked, they disavow any knowledge.

A real X-Files thing to ponder overnight...

Many more web addresses if anyone is curious.

2. Nope. Not capable. They're 737's. Short haul
I do not believe a 737 can fly over the Atlantic.

11. Boeing Business Jet
Essentially a Boeing 737-700 with the engines & wings from the 737-800. They have been fitted with extra fuel tank.

Privatair of Switzerland is using one on scheduled service on behalf of Lufthansa between Munich & Newark, as well as one on behalf of Swiss betwee Zurich & JFK. The maximum range is somewhere in the region of the distance between Seattle & Jeddah - because they flew one non-stop between the 2 places when it was being delivered to a Saudi company.

Airbus have been pitching their models too, with the clients having the choise of a A319LR (Long Range) or a ACJ (Airbus Corporate Jet). The former is a stock A319 which have been fitted with extra fuel tanks in one of the cargo holds, which enables it to fly from Dusseldorf in Germany to Newark & Chicago in the US. The ACJ is an A319 with a customized interior.

I feel kind of out of the loop.

I'm pretty sure I know about the 300's and 400''s and re-engining the old 100's etc. I had no idea that we are talking about 700 to 800 models. WOW.

But, on the original question. Do you think they (the Saudi's) would have been flown out on a 737? Even with the mods.? Or rather an Airbus or 777?

14. No
.. I'm pretty sure I read somewhere that the Saudis were flown to New England in a small biz jet & from there taken on one of the Boeing 747's that the royal families own.

The BBJ however, have found a role as a part of the illegal transport of prisoners from the US to the Middle East. The prisoners are moved to countries that are known to use torture to get info out of prisoners.

3. They had a thing on 60 Minutes a few years back
It was about Area 51. The employees had to go to a specified area at McCrarran every morning to be flown to work. The planes had no windows, so nobody knew where they were going. Flew back the same way.

4. Correct.
They are always white with the red stripe.

The passengers seem to board or de-plane with casual clothing. The windows seem to be opaque.

They have "Janet" call-signs flying into Vegas, but not much more. No flight plans.

And, you can't get in any way near them.

9. Didn't see that one.
I've been to LV for some conventions and saw the planes. (OK, I also listen to Art Bell) and had heard about them.

I was also there once for a helicopter convention (HAI, Helicopters Association International) and there was no way they were letting us near that area for demo flights.

Just the X-Files middle of the night, "boo", that's all...LOL...

Also, I thought they were registred to EG&G Special Operations or something like that, so the government could say that they don't know anything about it (aka plausible denial)?

There are more if you click on the planes registration, as some of them are registred as Unknown (EG&G).
