My sig on another board got vetoed as too political - need a new one
This is on an RPG (role playing games) board - my sig line of "The people can always be brought to the bidding of their leaders. That is easy. Tell them they are being attacked and denounce the pacifists for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger." from Hermann Goering got vetoed. Probably some Freeper reported me...

I was told that politics is not appropriate after having it for the better part of a year. I didn't realize I was too political.

Anything similar I can change it to? The rules are below...

Keep it civil: Don't engage in personal attacks, name-calling, or blanket generalizations in your discussions. Say how you feel or what you think, but be careful about ascribing motives to the actions of others or telling others how they "should" think. People seeking to engage and discuss will find themselves asking questions, seeking clarifications, and describing their own opinion. People seeking to "win an argument" sometimes end up taking cheap shots, calling people names, and generally trying to indimidate others. My advice: don't try to win.

Keep it clean: Don't use obscenities, don't use clever tricks to run around the profanity filters, and don't link to sites with inappropriate content. The "acid test" we use is the "Grandmother Rule" -- if it would be inappropriate to say to or show to our grandmothers, don't do it. I want a typical 13 year old kid to be able to come here and participate if they want to without feeling uncomfortable. This should be a minor-friendly place. Think about it this way: how do you act around strangers or work acquaintances? You watch your language and you're on your best behavior. That's the ideal we're shooting for here.

Keep it on topic: Ok, so it's not that we actually forbid off-topic conversation. But keep in mind that this is a D&D and D20 site, with many sub-forums on lots of related topics. Try to put your posts in the right forums (it helps people find stuff, for one thing); off-topic posts go in the Off Topic forum. By popular demand, off-topic polls (not posts -- polls) are forbidden. And in this category I should mention the "no religion, no politics" rule -- please refrain from discussion of a religious or political nature. This last may seem a rather draconic rule, but it has helped keep the peace around here for a long time. There are plenty of places on the internet where one could have those sorts of discussion.

1. This might work:
Who's more foolish: the fool, or the fool who follows him? - Obi Wan Kenobi

3. Good suggestion
The rules posted DID clearly state "No religion, no politics", and the sig was one of a political nature.

I'd say, don't bitch about it because it took them a year to enforce the rule, but chuckle that you got away with it for so long.

4. true, it lasted through the election
I honestly didn't think it was that provocative, and is something that can be applied to Dungeons & Dragons in a campaign like setting - however, instead of Iraq & America, you have two fictional kingdoms and your players are members of one kingdom (the America equivalent) who've only heard the bad about the Iraq-equivalent kingdom... you know, mass graves, killing his own people, etc.

6. Then look for a relevant quote from a well-known fantasy writer
That is about a fantasy setting, but could be just as applicable in real life.

Then you've got plausible deniability, but only insofar as you don't try to make people read more into it.

5. It need not be a freeper who reported you.

I have alerted on liberals and dems on non-political boards who were letting their politics seep into their posts. It simply isn't the subject at hand on those boards. I don't care if I agree with the poster or not. Not everything need be made into a political debate, and it pisses me off when I am tired of political debate to go to one of my hobby boards, and find that some asshole is trying to start shit there. NOT THE FRACKIN' PLACE FOR IT!

And I have noted that i get called a RW thug for telling both parties to knock it off far more frequently than I get called a liberal control-freak.

I'll say this about conservatives: they do seem to be better able to compartmentalise politics from other parts of their lives, at least when comparing online conservatives to online liberals.

I have this on my sig line on a board I use for nursing. Your welcome to share!

A fine quotation is a diamond on the finger of a man of wit, and a pebble in the hand of a fool.
