Chicken Tantrum: I hate my rooster. Should I turn him into broth? |
|
He's torturing one of the chickens. He plucks out her feathers. At this rate I'm gonna have to knit her a sweater. It was 22 below zero this morning. I hate feeding them when it's that cold; trudging out to the barn to find their water frozen, and this morning I found a mouse in the feed- scared the shit out of me, not because I'm afraid of mice, but because I reached into the feed bag and felt it.
End of meaningless chicken tantrum.

8. Nope. It's survival of the fittest for my |
|
chickens, so I suppose I shouldn't complain about my rooster's uncouth behavior. Usually, though they do quite well. I've had some of them for 5+ years.

3. Is he your only rooster? |
|
If not, into the pot!!! That'll teach him to be a chicken torturer!

5. My mom said she hated the chickens they kept during WWII |
|
It was her dad's idea - part of the war effort. It was her job to take care of the chickens and clean the coop. She said she hated everything about it - the mess, the stink, the behavior of the chickens. Every time I saw an article in Organic Gardening and tried to talk her into raising chickens she said "NO!"

That if you hate your chicken, it is you who must adjust, not your chicken. Learn to love the rooster for what he is. Learn to see in his actions the beauty of diversity. Hatred will only hurt you, and killing the rooster will end his suffering but create more suffering for your soul. Loving your rooster for what he contributes to the world will bring you closer to enlightenment.
Of course, it may be that what the rooster contributes to the world is stewed chicken.... But me and Buddha are vegetarians, and won't go there.
