Can someone explain something about "Minority Report?" |
|
Do we ever find out what happened to Sean, his son? It seems to be a loose thread left dangling, which is very odd--many Spielberg films are about a separated parent and child (just a few: "The Sugarland Express" "Close Encounters" "E.T." "Poltergeist" "Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom" "The Color Purple" "Empire of the Sun" "Jurassic Park" "Schindler's List" "A.I."), but the lack of follow-through in "Minority Report" seems to be its only major flaw as a film.
I keep catching it on cable after having seen it in theaters, and we know for certain that the guy in the hotel room was a plant. But what, in fact, happened to Sean?

2. The movie never really says. |

And it's been so long since I read the story, I don't know if it is ever covered there, either. But Philip Dick did that sometimes. He would force the reader to live with the sort of uncertainty that plagued his characters, because in real life. . . sometimes you just don't know. You never find out. It's unfair and unjust, but there's more than a dash of "unfair" and "unjust" in Dick's body of work.

But it's heavily implied that his son was killed, still missing...something many parents deal with on a daily basis. Missing children and they never find a body or get closure. It's hard on people.
