3. I did the easiest events

Student Congress and Declamation. Never quite managed to do an honorable event like Extemp or Lincoln Douglas. :(

On edit: a little Original Oratory too.

5. One time in Congress
we submitted a bill entitled "A resolution Concerning the Renaming of Student Congress" which renamed it "Forensics for Idiots" and advocated the abolishment of the event. The parliamentarian wasn't too happy, and he postponed it indefinitely. I laughed at the bill, but I kept doing Congress anyway. Probably cause I got 1st so many times and got so many points.

2. Poetry Interpretation.
I won regionals doing Langston Hughes' "Let America Be America Again", made famous by President Elect Kerry's quoting it during the campaign.

At state I had to do "Lovesong of J. Alfred Prufrock" and came in fourth, dammit. I just didn't FEEL that one like I did the Hughes.

8. 2 years of debate in high school - took debate in college, but

I was just canon fodder there.

In high school we debated "Should there be an international organization to control the proliferation of nuclear weapons?" I remember citing evidence that North Korea either had, or would soon have, nuclear weapons at that time as an example for the necessity of doing something about this problem. That was nearly 40 years ago.

I'm feeling pretty discouraged right now.
