The Stone Roses - I can't be the only fan
What a great group. Too bad they're virtually unknown here.

I Wanna be Adored, Elephant Stone, She Bangs the Drums, Turns Into Stone, Mersey Paradise, Going Down, Standing Here, Ten Storey Love Song... so many great songs.

1. First record is a CLASSIC, but second one sucked big time
Also, they were a TERRIBLE live act-- sloppy, careless, fscked-up most of the time....

They really were greater than the sum of their parts. Ian Brown's solo career isn't going anywhere.

2. Yeah, second album isn't all that great
I love their b-sides compilation though ("Turns Into Stone") - some great tracks.

Never saw them live - considering I was a toddler, it would've been hard.

And yeah they probably were greater than the sum of their parts. I think with most great bands that's the case.

16. Only a toddler??????? Shit, I'm old
They first hit in the US in 1990, during the last half of my junior year of COLLEGE. How did you ever find out about these guys?

17. I'm big into brit-rock
and most contemporary brit-rock bands claim them as a huge influence. Also love the Beatles and 60s rock, so was referred to them from that too.

3. Flashes of brilliance, but overall disappointing.

The ill-fated second record and everything Ian Brown has done since outweighs the good stuff, IMHO. I give Mancunian acts the benefit of the doubt, but I never saw what was particularly special about the Stone Roses.

8. last night I had this weird dream (seriously)
that Morrissey was at my school but he was going to a Skating rink (as in roller, not ice) afterwards but I didn't know which one and I was really nervous and by the time I figured out which skating rink he was at, there were too many people there and I was disappointed (truly truly truly)

Then I woke up and had the epiphany that Morrissey, being English, probably isn't circumcised, and that never dawned on me before.

4. One good album, then they got all techno and stupid
I love that song "are you made of stone"---I don't know if you've ever read The Stand, but that song reminds me of when Larry Underwood had to walk through the lincoln tunnel with all the dead bodies....."tin twisted grills grin back at me..."

18. Actually, Second Coming is great - people are conditioned to hate it.
The rock journalists told us to. Get over that, and it's a very good record.

20. Hmmm....I just thought it sucked when I first heard it
The single off it was a bit of a joke, IMHO. Maybe I'll have to dig it out and give it a few more listens.
