My kid had to watch some of the inauguration in school. Eww. |

Edited on Thu Jan-20-05 04:18 PM by tjdee
I asked how her day was, and she said "Good...oh wait, bad." I asked why, and she said "We had to watch George W. Bush in school."
The kids have been following the election and they were learning that the guy who wins has a party and is sworn in.
And last week they got one of those weekly readers that said "Meet President Bush" with pictures like "Our president lives in the White House" and "Our President rides a bike".
The GREATEST was "Our President likes to read".
on edit: I don't mind her learning the political process...but it's just so unfortunate this POS has to be part of her learning that.

he's even said he doesn't like to read!! A sad day indeed when weekly reader becomes a RW mouthpiece right to our nation's children!

I try hard to be fair when I talk about Republicans and Bush to her.
I do, though, let her know in no uncertain terms that Bush in particular is someone who has made a number of bad decisions.

6. Well, we did have a talk about it. |

She was one of the only ones who voted for Kerry in November, too. So she kind of knows what's up.

Do you live in a republican area? I remember voting on my Weekly Reader when I was little. I voted for Bush because I didn't even recognize Dukakis. I didn't know anything about politics then. This girl told some of us to vote for Dukakis because he is nice, so I erased my vote, and checked Dukakis. So, maybe there was some of that happening. The kids were more likely to recognize Bush.

We live in NJ, and I personally know a good number of Democrats, including some cool folks who handed out Kerry stickers on Halloween--but the majority is Republican.
I do think most of the kids were just voting out of recognition and just because their parents like him...which is I guess why my kid voted the way she did!
Your story is so cute!

they showed the protestors for quite a while. I thought that was good. I think it is good for kids to know about the process even if we don't like the results.
