SAO PAULO, Brazil - A woman in northeastern Brazil has given birth to what one doctor called a "giant baby," a boy weighing 16.7 pounds.

Francisca Ramos dos Santos, 38, gave birth to the healthy boy named Ademilton on Tuesday at a hospital in Salvador, 900 miles northeast of Sao Paulo. He was the largest baby born at the Albert Sabin Maternity Hospital in its 12-year history, the hospital said.

2. This was her fifth
The other babies she had were big as well. One was 11 pounds before this one. The woman is diabetic which played a role in the baby being so large.

11. I really don't know
but pretty soon they are going to have a tough time finding diapers that fit him unless they just use cloth.

9. A cesarian, I presume?
Edited on Fri Jan-21-05 01:40 PM by rocknation
"Obviously the baby was born by Caesarean section," hospital director Rita Leal said. "Both mother and baby are doing just fine."

Just checking...

Edited on Fri Jan-21-05 01:37 PM by ps1074
The heaviest baby ever was a 22 pounds 8oz boy born to Italian Carmelina Fedele in 1955.

10. It's stories like this that give me the heeby jeebies
to think about "the old days". Can you imagine? *shudder* I guess in *the old days* the mother would have been dead 2 or 3 babies ago.

12. I would take a baseball bat to my husband if he ever did that to me!
This poor woman gave birth to a toddler! I would NEVER have sex again if my baby was that size.

14. Bigger than our 3 month old
And our 3 month old is in the 90th percentile as far as size. I can't even imagine what this baby is.
