Serious question for DU cops:Do you think busting pot smokers ... |
|
...is a waste of time?
I come from a cop family and even the most conservative ones feel this way - they kind of see it as mindless busiwork.
Do you feel this way?

1. Every citizen of a democratic country is free to say "law X is bad" but... |
|
...I believe police officers have a klind of "etiquette" not to badmouth laws. I know of one British officer who lauded the relaxation of marijuana laws there, but only after the fact.
So don't be surprised if you get silence or non-answers from the DU cops.

2. Conversation with a small-town sherrif... |
|
Last summer while visiting my in-laws, the county sherrif came over for a visit (he had been a classmate of Mr. Dora).
He was complaining about all the ditch weed his men had to clean up and burn the week before. He described it as a waste of time, toxic, and hazardous, and it kept him and his men from doing true law enforcement work.
Boy, did he sound resentful.

3. CubanLiberal is a cop, |
|
and my understanding is that he believes that it is, indeed, a complete waste of time. Maybe he'll see this and respond.

4. The only problem that I have with marijuana... |
|
Edited on Fri Jan-21-05 04:07 PM by theshadow
.... is that I have seen enough death & heartache from booze, that I don't want to see yet another substance out there clouding minds. In my venue, it's not a major issue: when we find it, we cite the person. I don't know what it's like in a major city.
I'm afraid this discussion is going to segue into a big thread about whether pot is bad for you or not, and why isn't alcohol illegal, etc. but someone said the DU cops wouldn't respond, so nyuh nyuh nyuh.

.... you're quick on the draw! As I said, I knew this was going to turn into a debate about marijuana and I'm not up to it today.

9. but that's exactly what you asked for |
|
your post was tantamount to calling somebody a racial epithet and then hoping the conversation does not turn into a discussion on racism.

12. I think pot is much less addictive than booze |
|
In my entire life I have met 2 people who were badly effected by pot. There is very good evidence it is not physically addictive, but psychological dependance is real but very uncommon. These 2 guys just could not relate to the world without being high.
I known many more people with severe alcohol problems.
I have smoked pot, but it really was not for me. Usually just made me really sleepy. Or if I was awake time dragged by. Once, I watched an Illinois-Michigan game while high and from my perspective it took about eight years. Have not smoked in a decade.

the social problems that come with over-use of alcohol are almost all absent when it comes to marijuana.

10. This wacky world has gone way past pot as an issue |
|
Since the chimpy chump did inhale and his familly are dope dealers amounst other dealings ( they are dopes ) Pot isn't an issue but will always be a law they can use to profile thier enemys with. The real reasons that they illegalized pot have nothing to do with thier fake moral bullshit and now they are so greedy that thier drug co. friends will maybe push to use it in happy pills they can sell thru rip off prescriptions. My police friends would rather be confronted with some stoned out pot heads than a bunch of drunks with weapons. It is a waste of time and money to make a big deal about something that you an grow yourself, imagine how pissed off they will be when we start using bio-fuel that they can't control.
