How much do you pay monthly for your internet connection? |
|
and what kind is it? The cost of my Yahoo DSL just went up to $52.70 and I think its ridiculous.

ADSL, 3Mbps down/384Kbps up.
Too bad Speakeasy isn't in my area or I'd go with their 6Mbps ADSL.

9. 52 bucks is too much for DSL, IMO. |
|
For that, you can get cable....which is what I have...I think it's about 40 bucks (Right now I'm on the reduced "have it for six months" thing).

comcast (my only cxable provider because of how the system is set up (many happy mini-monopolies in their own districts)), has 3M down/256k up for $42/mo... Plus modem fee plus hookup fee plus multicomputer fee plus more fees. And the $12/mo basic cable monthly fee or else the cable internet fee is much more. :eyes:
Fuck 'em. It's only 3M download speed when nobody else is using it (DSL is dedicated) and the upload speed (for gaming/ website work) is pathetic.
It's not always about download speed. Security and a dedicated line are worth the cost.

26. I agree with your points for DSL vs. Cable... and here's another one to |
|
consider: how often is your telephone line out as opposed to how often does your cable TV go out? You can expect the same problem at the same time with your cable broadband.

11. Me again, it pays to shop around and talk with you current provider |
|
This is one area were there really is competition. Call the providers and ask them what their best deal is, they will not automatically give you the best deal, but when you ask, they usually do. I highly recommend SBC.

|
Edited on Fri Jan-21-05 07:31 PM by HypnoToad
Plus $15 for the basic phone line.
I'm also getting 1.5M down/768k up. 768k up can't be beaten by cable, not at that price...

I don't know what speed. Probably the lowest.
My total DSL and phone bill is usually around $70-80/month altogether.

17. $24.95 per month first 3 months |
|
and $45 per month after that, I think. Ours is comcast cable.
Maybe your contract was the same as ours, where the price goes up automatically after a few months. And you can switch after 6 months to another, better deal to get a start-up discount.

19. I just called up customer service and told them their increase was |
|
"fucking ridiculous". The guy put me on hold and then came back and told me they would give me another year at $26.95 if I stayed. I said only if you rebate this month too. He said ok.
Yahoo DSL people, don't let them screw you over!
I love it when being a bitch saves me money
And another thing... I have a cheap cell phone just for safety from Einstein. You have to buy 200 minutes a month to keep it live, and you have to do it within thirty days. Apparently I missed the date, cause they erased 1500 minutes. I went to the store and ranted about it. Minutes were re-added.

27. cox cable $50/month.... |
|
And I use it for my broadband phone connection, too. I don't subscribe to cable TV, so my total ISP/phone bill is about $75/month, and no long distance charges. That's reasonable, I think, especially since the Cox internet speed is plenty fast for me. The cable internet cost would go down $10/month if I subscribed to cable television, but that's absolutely not worth the cost, IMO.
