What the HELL is wrong with the USA? |
|
I was reading an article today in which a woman told a reporter "Oh, I like George Bush alot... he's not perfect but I believe he speaks to god and he trusts in god to lead him." This fucking woman was allowed to vote? Sounds like a goddam mental case if I heard one. Do they not get the whole point of the US in the first place was to live in a place not ruled by people claiming to be ordained by god? Fucking idiot.
Then another woman in Pennsylvania said she disliked Bush and was thinking of moving to Canada but "It's too damned cold there."
ANother fucking idiot.

that she didn't have time to watch all the "delicious" inaugural events on TV because she was busy that day.
See, there are crazy people in Canada too! Some.

9. I will NEVER understand the influence of religion in politics here. |
|
I was talking this over with Doug while I was in Toronto last week, in fact. I can't imagine Paul Martin endlessly prattling on about how his faith is so important, blah blah blah.
All Presidential candidates, nowadays, seem to have to proclaim, loudly, their religious beliefs and faith in god. Apparently, a man or woman who is smart, decent, and either an agnostic or atheist can't be President. Which is really fucking sad.

11. Well, I just spent the last two days in Vancouver |
|
and there were plenty of idiots there as well. Lots of cool people too, but more than enough idiocy to go around.
The first woman sounds like a genuine idiot, the second sounds more like a twit who skipped her high school geography class.

12. Yeah, this supposed pow wow |
|
every morning with God before he gets out of bed is a problem. Or maybe it's his interpretation of his conversation that's the issue.
Anyhow...
What upsets me the most about the U.S. right now is that what's "right" (read - good, encouraging) isn't/doesn't appear to be represented or valued. America has a vast array of wonderful thinkers, teachers, minds, etc. that aren't invited to participate in the national dialogue. Sure, a Harvard professor can be a talking head on t.v. and the like but doesn't appear to have any voice that resonates into the hallowed halls of the Senate, or the Whitehouse.
I get the sense that the people in the U.S. that truly want to help their country are basically not allowed - because helping would entail tearing down some basic manipulative structures that benefit the very few at the top of this corporate government.
It is frustrating for sure, but for all the backward thinking going on there is an awful lot of encouraging dialogue and action going on down there. They are too strong willed a people to allow their country to be run through the mud continuously by their government.
Just my two cents.

frigid weather. ;)
I do admit that I think anyone who has even a smidge of an iota of respect for Bush is a freaking mental case.
