The Gowns Don't Really Resemble the Sketches >>>
Apologies to those who are bored with the gowns. However, I will point out that I am hearing non-stop discussion of the gowns and the balls on C-Span with no rebuttal.

Rebut here.

1. Love Jenna's; hate Barbara's
Edited on Thu Jan-20-05 09:22 PM by theboss
Why does Mrs Bush insist on sleeves on every dress? It's not a flattering look for her.

And what is up with Jenna's hair?

By the way, this is not bashing. It's being catty. Big difference.

51. I think you are right.
I think it is a different dress, different color, too. It was supposed to be aquamarine or something. She's wearing peach. Not very flattering for her figure. She would have looked better in a dress with a horizontal bodice, like Jenna's last night. This dress emphasizes her very small breasts.

Maybe she wore it last night?

very well. I mean it would be easier to dress up sacks of flour than those ladies. Muu muus anyone? It would be a more flattering look for them. As for the long sleeves for Laura, is she covering up track marks? That might explain her robotic demeanor. And they blamed it on her batteries running down.

12. It's the HAIR! Barbara's is really atrocious.
I mean you spend all that money on a gown and you can't do ANYTHING interesting with your hair? It looks like she pulled it away from her face with a Goody's barrette. Jenna's hair looks like she just rolled out of bed and the top of her gown is enormous; she's not THAT big. Meanwhile her sister looks as flat as a board.

As for Laura's gown, Mrs. Alan Greenspan was sighing over it on MSNBC. In delight! It looks like it buttons down the front again; like she's being cut right down the middle.

20. They just can't get it right
Both Jenna and Tonics have atrocious hair. A piece got stuck in Jenna's lipgloss ... or whatever she forgot to wipe off her face from that quickie with the College Republican backstage.

Jenna's dress is a good color for her. And having the silver detail up higher is better than what the drawing previewed, which would have equaled neon signs pointing to her hips.

Babs, who is actually more slender than Jenna, is wearing the "wide load" dress tonight. Extremely unflatterling in both color and cut. She needed curls or something more feminine to go with the dress.

Laura improved from last night's Little Shirtwaist on the Prairie. But the waist seam is most unflattering. She would have done better with empire or modified princess cut. It looks like she's got her left hand shoved in a seam pocket. I'd call it Formal Bathrobe.

It's not that hard to do! I saw Jenna at one point today with a crappy rubber band holding her back. She could have at least used something more appropriate and stylish to pull and hold it back.

24. Those "pockets" moved up above the waist on the actual dress.
Green one. In the sketch, they are mostly below the waist. In real life, they have moved up into a "weird" position.

I must admit that although I don't actually like the dresses, Laura's is much better than last night. Last night was Carolina Herrera. Tonight is Oscar de la Renta.

Both the dress on the right and the dress on the left seem to have a hirsute quality. Little things seem to be sticking out.

With so much money, I'm sure they could have found something decent to wear. These dresses are "passable".

I heard it clearly. There is no mistake in what I heard. Maybe they gave bad information, but that is definitely what they said.

Leads you to believe that the dress wearer had too much input into the design.

I can't believe Herrera designed that dress either. (Actually, I can't believe anyone designed it.)

It's part of the youth culture, and not something I can understand
at all. Hair up, with perhaps just some tendrils around the face
would look so much better.

The girls' dresses do seem to be a bit baggy, especially Jenna's,
but if they held themselves better, the effect would be more
pleasing. My kids get sick of me nagging them but "shoulders down,
tummy in, back straight" works wonders when it comes to a bit of
style.

But Laura - this is better than the striped shirtwaister, but she
should stick to dark colours - midnight blue would be an
improvement. But forget the buttons already - if she's not
breastfeeding, she doesn't need them.

Edit: typo
