He worked for Maine Dept. of Transportation. He fixed the roads in the summer, and plowed/sanded them in the winter.

I frequently try to express gratitude to civil servants. People tend to only express themself when they are angry or stressed. A kind word or gesture creates a positive feedback. Enough people do it we can change the world.
