Poll question: The greatest rock group with a dominant female lead
Edited on Sat Jan-22-05 11:24 AM by Feeney2
This means when you think of a group some female member sticks out. This excludes the Joan Jett(solo) and Melissa Etheridge types who aren't necessarily associated with a group.

I have to go with Pretenders. I love the Jefferson Airplane, but Slick was part of the ensemble. Hynde was the group.

4. WTF?
No Joan Jett and the Blackhearts??? This poll is invalid.

Put me down for Joan as a write in --and no Runaways doesn't count as Lita Ford was the lead vocal.

18. Republica's first album is great.
Just happened to be ripping it right now!

Too bad their second album sucked. Guess they broke up eventually.

24. i thought their second album sucked for awhile, but i've found i like it.
Rush Hour with Love, Pretty Girl Hate, Try Everything... eventually i got over the fact that it was different, and perhaps a little suckier or lamer or whatever, but i like it now.

14. Wings
Linda led the way for those in the Bangles, the Go-Gos, and the B-52s--the not particularly talented but eager and fun women who bring life to a band. And her harmonies rank with the best--listen to Dear Boy, Tomorrow, Man We Was Lonely, etc. She got a lot of crap, but she took it, had fun, and made good music.

15. But Exene wasn't the dominant force on her own.
She and Doe both provided direction, and the band doesn't exist without either.

Edited on Sat Jan-22-05 12:30 PM by whoisalhedges
...but there was no *the* dominant force in X.

The interplay between Exene Cervenka and John Doe is what made that band.

20. Not the greatest group but I thought the lead singer of 4 Non Blondes
had great potential. Saw her in concert around 10 years ago and she had these bug-out eyes and wailing voice that knocked you out. Her expressions were amazing. Too bad things didn't work out like they should.
