Who wants to give me job advice? |
|
I feel in a rut.
I left a full-time job last year, and have been doing a technical consulting job since (plus a few other small jobs). The pay rate is decent although the work is sporadic. It allowed me to take a big vacation, and rest from my previous soul-sucking full-time job.
Ok, now the work has dwindled. But the same company asked if I would do another project for them (not in my field) for less than half the pay. I agreed because I am running out of money, but this is the impetus to look for a full-time job (contract or perm).
Anyway, it turns out the new project is horrible. Partly because I am having to go through a project manager type, and not the actual client. ANd the computer systems and databases are impossible to use without training, which I don't have, which would not be such an issue if I worked with the actual client. Arrrggghhh!!!
What to do, what to do?
I have a job interview next week. I can usually find a new job within 30 days of when I start looking.
Oh well.

1. Get a full time job if you can |
|
You didn't say if the job that you are interviewing for is something that you would like to do. If you need money though, it might be best to get a full time job anyway, especially if the consulting thing isn't going well. I don't know how the employment situation is in your area, but in many areas there is quite a bit of competition for jobs. Although you don't want a job that you would hate, you might not want to turn down jobs waiting for a better offer if you need money soon.

ANd the job I'm interviewing for is a fairly good fit. I'll find out more at the interview.
At least I have had the time off to rest. My field is pretty specialized, and there is not as much competition as in other fields. And I am not totally out of money, so I don't have to jump at something terrible. But if I can accept a job in the next 30 days, like I said, that would be helpful.
