I'm in the Boston area waiting for a blizzard--
Anyone else have snow yet in the Northeast?

The supermarket parking lot in my area was jammed earlier this afternoon----you'd think it was the end of the world as we know it.Hysterical!

31. Didn't you read your Laura Ingalls Wilder as a kid?
If there's a blizzard, you're supposed to tie a rope between your destination and the house so you can follow the rope back. Laura's Paw had a rope between the house and the barn so he could tend to the livestock :)

3. If you get the one that...
...is still coming through Detroit, look for about a foot or more of snow, drifts three foot high, and blowing and drifting. Visibility is about 10 feet, and it's 11 degrees. I hope you don't get this one.

here but the way our local weathermen jump around in frenzied glee everytime a flake falls you just can't be sure.

Think spring!

she plants her snoot in the snow ... stays there for maybe 30 seconds, picks up her head and bolts to another spot, sticks her snoot down again and repeats the process over and over and over ...

i've noticed that the really cold temps are bothering her paws though ... we're thinking of buying her little puppy booties ...

8. it is traditional
for all the mother hens of suburbia to run off to the stupormarket when THE BLIZZARD IS COMING. It is a ritual. Heck if you were around in '78 you probably were sitting pretty if you had gotten the extra milk before the storm. Lord knows the whole family would surely die if the milk ran out. :-)

13. I was one of the mother hens in '78---had 5 teens and pre-
teens to feed.

That was quite a blizzard and oddly enough I have very pleasant memories of it,but we didn't lose our power so that may have a lot to do with it.

10. gotta love that food panic
i envision some guy living in a remote cabin way up near the Arctic Circle ... this will be the last chance for the "supply plane" to land until mid-May ... gotta get all the provisions you'll need to hold you through the winter ...

of course, by tomorrow afternoon, maybe only 18 hours later, the snow will have ended, the roads will be clear, and many will have enough food to host a Boy Scout jamboree ...

absurd, isn't it ??

26. Brooklyn Reporting In: Started snowing at 11AM. We now have about 3 in on
the ground outside my door. Very heavy, windy, cold. They are predicting 14-20 inches.
My friend who lives in Manhattan told me that people were lined up for 1/2 block to get into a Whole Foods Market!!! DUH! By tomorrow afternoon the streets and sidewalks in Manhattan will be walkable. These people will be "stuck" in their apartments for all of one night, and they are standing outside in the snow to shop!
I just don't get it.

30. I'm out in Lowell, just got back from Nashua a while ago, had to go to
Costco (they have some damned good frozen popcorn chicken that I was craving).

Got home in time to hole up for the storm.

I plan on sitting inside with the heat cranked to 75 (hell maybe I'll get wasteful and go to 80) and sip frosty milkshakes during a blizzard. I always wanted to drink a milkshake during a blizzard :) Plus, I bought a new blender while I was at Costco, so I'm all set.

I'll sit here in my loft, open my big as window and watch the whiteout :)

43. I think it is ocean effect - it's like on the 26th of December,
I woke up and it was snowing hard outside. Turned on the weather, and there was nothing about it. They later chalked it up to ocean effect, and brushed it off as if it were just a dusting, but it was a bunch.

I'm a couple of miles southeast of the outlets & we started at 3:20. We've picked up about 3/4 inch so far. There have been several huge pockets of snow, but it's mildly steady now.

We shall see what happens. I went to BJ's cos Stop & Flop parking lot was PACKED. Got the last bottle of hurricane lamp fuel at Benny's, too! (I love burning my lamps, regardless of whether or not there are power outages.)

I LOVE snowstorms, but only on weekends like this, when I don't have to shovel out for work in the morning!
