What chat program do you use?
It seems like EVERYBODY around the midwest uses AIM and rarely anything else. I just assumed it is THE program to use, but recently I have been talking to a few people in the south and they use Yahoo. Are there regional patterns where different chat programs are prevalent?

1. Yahoo
I read some reviews of all the IMs and it got the best rating, too.

2. I use AIM...
I am also in college so all of my friends are also on AIM so I guess they kind of made the decision for me. I have no idea if there is a better chat program.

5. I like yahoo the best and use it for the radio...
but only know people in the south who use it. Maybe it's an age thing? It's not important, but I just find it interesting.

3. I use trillian...
Only because it allows me to connect to AIM, Yahoo, MSN, ICQ, and IRC all at the same time. :)

14. Trillian is fantastic!
Even if they did finally release a production version that kills a lot of what I'd gotten used to in the beta, that now I'd have to pay to see again. :::sigh:::

bitlbee:
BitlBee is an IRC daemon that can talk to instant messaging networks
and acts as a gateway. Users can connect to the server with any normal
IRC client and see their 'buddy list' in #bitlbee.
BitlBee's protocol support is based on the gaim protocol plugins.
BitlBee currently supports Oscar (aim and icq), MSN, Jabber and Yahoo.

Not that I really use instant messaging - I am on IRC networks 24/7 though, so this is a better fit for me.

11. AIM is the WORST chat client ever, use Gaim
I use Gaim right now, but Trillian and DeadAIM are good too. Multinetwork clients are good because you can access AIM, and Yahoo, IRC, or whatever.

Gaim is open source, free, and has tabbed windows.
http://gaim.sourceforge.net/
and it allows you to consolidate buddies that have more than one screenname:

12. I am wondering...I am on AOL..I know...I am a jerk...I like the chat rooms
FTL (From The Left) they went from 25 to 36...posters at a time and it became chaos..I am looking at People PC and just downloaded FoxFire 1.0 as a browser. But I know nothing about OTHER chat rooms? Does anyone have a link to a Yahoo chat room?

16. GAIM
Multiprotocol client for Linux. Right now I only have an MSN account, but it works also with AIM, ICQ, Yahoo, Jabber, and a lot of more obscure ones.
