1. The Treaty of Tordesillas.
It teaches a good lesson about today's events; Republican arrogance, incompetance, xenophobia and greed will one day be a memory.

Think about it: With the blessing of the Pope, Spain and Portugal divided the world in half, saying 'you get all of whatever you "discover" on your side; we get all of whatever we "discover" on our side. And we'll be RICH!

Spain and Portugal are still around, of course. But they aren't exactly world players anymore. Five hundred years ago, they thought themselves invincible.

BTW, I put 'discover' in quotes, because it turned out, there were people living in the places the Spanish and Portuguese "discovered". People who didn't take kindly to being ordered to give up their lands, their treasure, their religious beliefs and their lives to the white-skinned worshippers of dead carpenters who came from over the sea.

5. Yeah, that was a mistake.
"Most important" doesn't always mean "most beneficial".

6. Sovereignty of Germany
Edited on Sat Jan-22-05 05:39 PM by Kellanved
USA, France, the UK and the Soviet Union plus GDR and FRG.

It regulated/regulates the German reunification, the Sovereignty of Germany, the German Borders and the limits on the German Army (less than 350,000 men, limited transport capabilities and no ABC weapons).

7. Hmm. Interesting. I was right there IN Germany during the
reunification, and I never heard the name of the treaty. And here I thought 'The Stars And Stripes' was an informative newspaper.

Does "Four-Plus-Two" refer to the regulating powers, and the two Germanys? I'm guessing yes.
