I think Bush may end up being impeached |
|
Edited on Sat Jan-22-05 06:32 PM by nytemare
I was watching the History Channel today, and they had a special on the Presidents. As they were discussing Nixon, I just got this feeling that Bush is going to end up down the same road. All this new stuff coming out on Abu Ghraib and the prison abuses will not be tolerated for very long.
If people get sick of the way of things in the mid-term election and we get a democratic congress, I see it happening.
We will see, I suppose.
Mid-term should be interesting

A defeat would have been great, a humiliating impeachment would be better.

4. No way will he be impeached. |
|
The House and Senate are controlled by the Republicans. And therefore, they will NEVER bring articles of Impeachment again Bush, no matter what.
So if I were you, I wouldn't hold my breath.

6. read Worse Than Watergate |
|
It details why Bush deserves to be impeached. It would be good to see him held accountable for his actions, but with the Repukes in control, it is most likely not gonna happen.

13. Unfortunately, I think the only way it will happen |
|
is if we can take over at least one or the other of the House or Senate, hopefully both. We really need to start working hard now for that to happen. I just don't see the current legislature censoring him in any way. We, the people, need to speak up loud and clear.

16. although bush ostensibly has control of house and senate, |
|
i don't see much loyalty there. i think the true conservatives in the congress don't like bush anymore than we do, and are just itching for an excuse to bring a call for impeachment before the house. now the ones we need to get are the dems...if they start the rallying call, i can see conservatives standing behind them...
but then, the problem would be...do you really want dick cheney taking over?
bc that's what would happen after a full impeachment.

|
not with the banana republicans controlling the house.
the same rat-bastards who lined up to insist that they just "had to" impeach clinton, for being evasive under oath about his private sex life, "for the good of the nation" (to uphold the principle that no man is above the law) will line up to insist that they just "can't" impeach bush, regardless of what crimes he committed, "for the good of the nation" (because the country just can't go through that anguish again).

19. Well, - it's not entirely out of the question. |
|
Most presidents who've faced scandals, calls for impeachment and impeachment have done so in the 6th year of their presidency. Most likely owing to a general disgust which motivates a shift in voting habits at the mid-term.
If Democrats can win a majority in one or both houses and grow some back bone, it's not out of the question that at least, Bush could face a special prosecutor and a grand jury.
The difficulties and obstacles are numerous, ranging from general levels of citizen bamboozlement, perfidy at the polls and even spineless Democratic leaders. But it's possible.

Would like to think you are right, but the whole nation has changed (and not for the better) since the Nixon days. There is absolutely no shame, accountability, sanity in American politics.
There is also not much chance there will be accurate elections ANYTIME in the foreseeable future. Don't go pinning hopes on 2006. You are setting yourself up for more heartbreak. I honestly do not understand how any of us here could have thought the junta would let a fair vote happen in 04.

That would require two things:
(1) The mainstream media to report on whatever scandal brings him down, and
(2) The Republicans in Congress to vote to impeach him.
Can you see either happening?

While I'd like to think our Congress persons would impeach a criminal President even if he were of their own party, I'm not holding my breath in hopes it will happen.
Unless dems can win Congress in 2006 I (sadly) don't see it happening.

He convinced people that he could get us out of Viet Nam quickly and with honor. Of course we all know how that turned out. That was when I began to wonder about this guy. My gawd, he bombed everybody and anybody, called escalation. So I now figure the reason Watergate was so devastating was the compounding of so many mistakes Nixon made. Does this sound familar?

26. mid-terms will be manipulated by the current regime just like 2002 |
|
they'll "invent" something "bigger" and more pressing than the regime's crimes.
They only have to get a "bump" at the right time - voting day.
Remember the mid-terms of 2002? bush's little "campaign trip" around the country was credited with giving the moron's new partners-in-war-crimes just enough of a "bump" - at just the right time, to take the Senate and pad the House.
Well, that, and the attack ads
What they did to Cleland....
And the vote machines
And the bs flag-waving and Jesus-perverting.
The mid-terms will tell me a lot. Where we truly stand. What needs to be done next. And how.
