4. For me, its Donald O'Connor. I love the way he dances.
I hope TCM shows some of the Frances movies. It is great sitting in the house on a snowy night watching this!

6. The whole movie is marvelous, but…
favorite moments:

Gene Kelly and Donald O'Connor dancing in the speech coach's office.

Donald O'Connor's invention of break dancing :)

When the curtain goes up on Lina's lipsynching.

11. I think he's my favorite.
Fred was probably better, but Gene has that twinkle in his eye, and happy feet. (Oh damn, I think the hot buttered rum just kicked in.)

I watch it.

I met Debbie Reynolds once.

What a nice lady she is, too!

13. I've always heard she was.
She cracks me up. I'm sorry that she seems to be still having financial problems. Wouldn't you love to see her back in movies all the time?

17. The last film I recall seeing her in was "Mother" a few years ago.
It was quite cute about 2 brothers and their mother.

Yes, I wish she would do more.

:-)

15. The actual Singin' in the Rain dance sequence has only one,
One cut away shot. The whole thing was filmed live time, one run all the way through....

What passes for dancing today is usually a compilation of sequences edited together........

Gene Kelly was a different kind of dancer that Fred. Fred was elegant and fluid whereas GK was much more athletically inclined and more ballet oriented....

ripped off Gene Kelly a lot.

21. Aww, we did that in high school!
It was fabulous. I had a minor part: Mrs. Dinsmore, the speech coach (although that part is longer in the play than in the movie), but I was involved in just about every aspect of creating it, and it was a blast. The leads, especially the actors who played Lina Lamont and Cosmo Brown, were incredible.

I have to brag a little about all the technical stuff. We had real rain onstage. To do that we had to build the stage up by 12" and make a trough to hold the falling water. The raised stage also had ramps and steps that we could pick up or take down, to recreate some of the dance numbers like "Make-em Laugh" and "Good Morning." We also went down to Piedmont Park in Atlanta to film the movies, which were complete with choreographed fight scenes. AND, for the "Singin' in the Rain" number, we had a backdrop that was an exact reconstruction of the street scene shown in the movie.

But my favorite part of the whole playis Lina's song, "What's Wrong With Me?" It isn't in the movie, which is probably for the best, since it's a little racy. But, on top of giving a little more depth to Lina's character, it's really hilarious, especially when it's done in Lina's voice and accent.

Now I'm getting all teary-eyed and nostalgic!

23. "Dignity - always dignity"
I adore this film. And the "Singin'in the Rain" number is 5 of the most joyous minutes in screen history.
