1. No, you probably just need to get your post # up.
Nobody responds to mine, either, and I am the queen of threadkillers!
Which means that I am apologizing in advance for killing your thread.

3. Heh, heh
We've all been there, my friend. We're known as "thread killers" It can drive you batty. On many occasions I have pounded out a serious, thought provoking post only to have zero replies, and yet the next evening (like tonight) I will post a silly little thing and get 50 replies. Go figure.

Keep at it.

44. Or start posting fluff
like "should I cut my hair"? or "mmmm...bananas and Hershey's syrup"! Or maybe find a cute puppy or kitten photo to post from the web. Most people either don't want to think too much or they're out looking for a fight; fewer are actually looking for a serious discussion, and fewer still are looking for ways that they can personally be involved in bringing positive changes to American politics.

48. I've endured the same damn thing, GOPFighter.
I wouldn't mind it, if only the threads that I killed were destroyed by a genuinely bad response.

Instead, I research and toil over a fucking masterpiece of a post and get nothing in return, then I type about five words and all of a sudden everybody chimes in.

49. You've gotta love DU
You never know when your serious post will take root. It just depends on the mood of the crowd, the time of day, the direction of the wind and sometimes the barometric pressure.

Yet you post the fluffy stuff and watch it fly. :P

7. I've been posting for well over a year....and only a few days ago
did I post my first post that got a LOT of responses (enough for the burning post-it by the message). And I've posted a lot during the past year.

Don't worry. It'll happen. Keep plugging away. When I began, I mainly responded to others' posts, so maybe you should do that for awhile.

8. one time...
I was sitting in the hall way outside my room, and I looked up. In the corner, where the hallway turns left, there were thousands of baby spiders. I was so scared, I couldn't sleep.

or so I hear. I just read "dry" by Augusten Burroughs and am feeling slightly paranoid. But he definitely covers the spiders angle.

15. Look at it this way, the best minds of Humanity are often ignored...
...by the average minds of Humanity.

Perhaps this is a good thing. I know that when I put my heart, mind, beliefs, into a post there's a 50/50 chance of success here. If I fart or expose my genetiles? 100%.

Edited on Sun Jan-23-05 01:27 AM by bushwentawol
a lot of us don't get a great response to threads all the time. I've seen some very well thought out posts go relatively unnoticed, while others can say very little and get 75-100 replies. Just keep two words in mind here, Bughouse Square.

30. me too
Im an A student, on the Deans list, read books, know current politics and policies, but the way people talk here blow my mind. i feel so dumb, like ive hardly penetrated the surface of political knowledge. people really know their stuff here. the other day there was a thread on god and the nature of good and evil and it blew my mind away, people were quoting physics, referencing philsophers, talking about fragtrons or some crazy stuff. i felt like i really know nothing in the grand scheme of things. i lose my confidence a bit.

33. You sound like a smart young man. Maybe when everyone here
recognizes your name and sees that you are on the level. I'm almost 50 years old and have following politics a really long time. I try to post thoughtful responses when discussing a serious subject. I am blessed with good common sense and that is what I try to project. I hope to soon get some replies to my responses. Let's just keep working on it, what d'ya say?

51. Please. :)
I rarely get replies unless i'm arguing with someone.

And fact is...I'd rather be agreeing with them...which means we are less likely to respond to one another. The point is...don't judge the content or quality of your posts on the number of replies....people are less likely to respond to positive stimulants than they are to negative. It's the same reason most people will call and complain to company if their cable/phone/power/rental/dogging grooming company does something wrong but won't call and complement the company every month that the service is fine. It is our nature...for most of us anyway, including me.

So moral is: don't base your post worth on response. :)
