What was I thinking? What really was I thinking? |
|
Instead of moving to Dallas with my husband, I chose to stay in Pittsburgh to finish law school. Last semester I was too busy to have any regrets. This semester I'm not as busy, and I'm dealing with a bunch of new neighbors who are ALL noisy and constantly scraping 500 feet of snow off my car, not to mention walking bent over at a 90-degree angle to brave the cold. None of my buddies are in my classes this semester; I have to tolerate a bunch of maniacs from the year below me and 3Ls from other sections whom I don't know, plus some of the obnoxious, arrogant scumbags from my 1L section.
What was I thinking? I could be drinking tea on the patio in 70-degree weather in Dallas! I suppose I shouldn't complain; it was my choice to stay here and finish. This is the first time I'm kind of regretting my decision. I suppose it'll go fast; it's already almost February. I just wish sometimes that I was already settled in Texas and didn't have to deal with all of this crap.
Sorry for the rant. It's better than banging my head against the wall. No one will probably read it, anyway.

having the winter blahs and neighbours who are a$$'s. I'm sure you're missing your husband too. I hope you get to feeling better. Make yourself some HOT tea and curl up with a book. Or call your husband while you're having some tea, share a moment.
that's all.

2. Keep it up, it'll be worth it in the end |
|
Hang in there - once you have that JD to hang on your wall, and the Bar is a vague and distant memory, the bad stuff will have all faded.
You're close to the end. And the rewards when you're done will be so worth it!!!!!

You can make it through, I know you can! If we have an early Spring, we could have better weather in as little as six weeks. How's that for a glass half full?
Take some time to do something good for yourself right now! Get a message, go out for dessert (really decadent), or crash someone's hot tub. I hope this helps!
BTW, I'm going to try to do one of those things this week, but I haven't decided which one yet.

5. You were thinking, "I'm gonna finish what I started" |
|
Good for you. It sure doesn't look like the right thing on a day when you can barely thaw out or on nights when the neighbors from hell won't shut up...but look on the bright side...it's only 3 more months...right?

6. The thing is, I could have finished in Dallas |
|
I could have done 3L at a school there and still graduated from Pitt. I chose to stay here because I love Pitt and wanted to finish up with my friends; plus I knew I could do the work here and didn't want to disrupt that. Oh, well. Graduation is in 4 months and 5 days, and the time will just vaporize.

It will get here before you know it. I'm jealous as hell, really. This 1L stuff is grueling. I thought the second semester would be a little easier but I was wrong! Instead of easing you into the crushing workload gradually, they drop it on you the first day. Ugh!
But, no complaints, really. I'm glad to be in school. A bad day in law school is better than a good day at my old job at Dell! :P
It will pass quickly. Pretty soon you'll be gearing up for finals (do 3Ls take finals?) and getting ready to move. As a native Texan, I hope you like Dallas. It takes some getting used to--the people are kinda plastic and everything is paved. Try some weekends in Austin (my hometown) for some balance.
I need to PM you about grades, finals, etc. Keep your chin up! You're my inspiration!

Overall the weather in Dallas is not all that great. It's cold in the winter, hot in the summer, and windy all the time. It's also near the tornado capital of the United States (Oklahoma).
It's reasonable to be missing your husband, but you are not missing a lot of great weather.
Prepare yourself mentally for life in a very conservative city. Good luck and best wishes on completing your law degree.

8. Hi, Catbird - welcome to DU! |
|
I'm from Kansas, so I know about tornadoes, wind, heat and cold! I also know what it's like to live surrounded by conservative wackos, so that won't be new, either.
