MP3 tags? Software to fix these?
I'm probably a bit behind the times, but I was wondering if someone here might know the answer. I have ripped my CD collection to MP3s over the last couple of years, mainly for convenience. And wanting to get with the times, and since my car doesn't have a CD player, I bought an MP3 player and a cassette adapter. Stop laughing. Anyway, my Creative Labs mp3 player uses the tags in the MP3 files and the software I've been using doesn't fill those in (it used file names and folder names). Is there a specific tool for fixing the tags in mp3 files? Thanks.

1. I use WinAmp to create/edit the tags ...

It does the job and it's free. http://www.winamp.com

On edit: There are a lot of programs that are specifically designed to create and/or edit MP3 tags, but I've never found a good one that's also free. :-( Anyway, you could always do a Google search for "MP3 Tag Creator" and see what comes up.

2. There's a number of them that allow you to edit them 'manually'
iTunes on both platforms allows you to set the ID3 tags, for example.

There's a few programs and scripts I've seen that attempt to automate the process by guessing at the tags based on the filenames, but I've had mixed success with those. Only really works if the MP3 files are all uniformly named.

4. Here's a couple
Here's a Mac OS X one I haven't tried, but is similar in features. It's free:

Here's a Windows one -- don't know anything about it, except it says it can set the ID3 tags from filenames:
