OMG! I Just Watched "Desperate Housewives" For The First Time... |
|
... what a RIOT! I just love it.
SOMEONE HELP!! I was trying to explain it to my mom... I'm sure she'll love it, but in trying to tell her about it, I couldn't come up with the right comparison. --- What other well-known show (or movie) would the quirky dark humor/drama of Desperate Housewives be comparable to?

How's that?

... but that particular comparison might escape her. Thanks for the idea though... I'll probably use it when I talk about the show to others.
I have a feeling that instead of convincing my mom to watch... I'll just going to have to "force" her to watch an episode with me.
-- Allen
PS: I even love the animation for the show's opening credits!! Very clever and eye-catching! Plus... the fact that the theme music is by DANNY ELFMAN makes it even better. Whenever I hear his unique musical signature, I'm always reminded of the music from Beetlejuice and Edward Scissorhands.

Knot's Landing! The humor is very similar. I don't know what it's called when a character in the next scene finishes the sentence of the character in the previous scene, but they did that on Knot's landing all the time!

Eva Langoria? I love the show, but I can't believe my husband enjoys watching it with me. He usually hates most of my shows. I think it's the women, especially Eva, that attract him.

They're only on the 3rd episode here in the UK, but we're already completely addicted to it in our house. I love it, but I couldn't tell you why if I tried, because I'm not that much of a TV viewer. But this show's great!

I kept hearing people talk about it and decided to check it out. I went on Limewire and was able to download all the previous episodes. Now it's one of those shows that we try not to miss.

I have only seen billboards from this show and my admittedly kneejerk reaction was revulsion. As if the images presented somehow portrayed real housewives. So what is up with this show?

It's well acted and well written. Witty scripts.

Witty. Good plotline, good acting. It's a glorified soap opera with a mystery twist. It's not as bizarre as Twin Peaks, imo.

those were available as one HUGE file (it's going quite slow). probably will take a few days to finish. I probably should have downloaded the first few episodes singly just to check it before I "commit" but what the hell. :P
oh yeah, I don't expect ANYTHING to be as whacked as Twin Peaks (or anything else by David Lynch, I just watched Eraserhead the other night too, speaking of Lynch.)

28. you have to understand how bit torrent works |
|
it takes longer so others can "seed" off of you too...and get the shows. I believe its slowed down purposefully for that reason. People that don't understand gasp and act like it doesnt sound too good but where else can you download whole seasons of shows that you missed on tv for free. I know I can find last night's saturday night live somewhere too. I downloaded every episode of smallville ever made and watched them. took a few weeks but I got them all. it's worth it.

and already you can be seeding others with what you have. you have a little window that shows you the progression of download and upload to other downloaders. it takes quite a while which is no big deal if you aren't on phone dialup.

as if the last third or so of the movie is actually what happens first. That helps to make some sense out of it. That's why you need to see it multiple times to sort of get it.

"Soap." It's daytime soap opera, but doesn't take itself as seriously and is far more humorous. Very hard to compare with anything that's come before. It's totally unique -- funny, well written, suspenseful story lines all rolled into one.

I came into it after 3 episodes, and now that is my night for TV. DH is really its own kind of show. It's a prime time soap, but not really like any of the other ones before it, because of the comedy and the fact it doesn't take itself too seriously. I can't wait for tonight's episode.

Miranda is now a harried housewife who has three boys and is pissed she left her law practice.
Charlotte stayed married to Trey, is a bit younger somehow, and is his trophy wife.
Samantha is divorced and still sleeping around.
Carrie has a teenage daughter, and is divorced from Big.
Plus, there's a few more characters...actually, it reminds me slightly of some Nicole Kidman picture too.
The blatant ripoff of SATC is puzzlingly not mentioned more often...I guess because there's a higher level of quirk and the whole thing is narrated by an unlikely, Twin Peaksian character.

I don't think it's a blatant takeoff, but I can see some of the comparison of the characters. I think Bree is more like Charlotte, though. I don't think there's a good comparison for the Eva Langoria character (I just had a brain fart and can't remember her character's name for the moment).

shows, with the little bits of mystery thrown in.
Why did the "narrator" kill herself? Why did her husband send off their son? Why is the new hunky guy in that neighborhood, and why does he have all those guns and all that money lying around?
Soap meets Knots Landing meets a detective series.
but the scripts are very funny
