6. Go on-line... get em from the Native American tribes by mail.
It's the TAXES that are killing ya! Try some of the "off-brands".

On line, just search "cheap cigarettes".

8. In Portland, I think
they are $5.00 per pack.

Solution:

a) quit smoking

b) roll your own. I think the cost goes down to 26 cents per pack (?)

c) boycott the government. They are as addicted to "sin tax" as Americans are to the "sin". Show 'em who's boss.

9. I get cartons of Marlboro Menthol Light for $28 here in Ohio
I usually have a coupon, too, and that knocks the price down to about $25. I think if you buy individual packs you're going to pay $3-$3.20 depending on where you go. I don't know why they are cheaper by the carton, but I'm glad that they are.

10. jeez, come down to KY and they're cheeper
Marlboros are usually under 20 for a carton. I smoke Virginia Slims and they're 24.00 a carton here.

11. Well I don't live close enough to KY to make it profitable
or I would be down that way buying smokes. I live about 50 miles away from Kentucky so any money I would save would be taken up in fuel and time. I guess I could go down there and buy several cartons at a time and that would make it worth it, but I think it's illegal to move too many cigarettes across state lines.

19. LOL... When I Started Smoking In 1976...Cigarettes Cost 40-cents A Pack..
... if I purchased them at the BX. An they were SO lax about who they sold cigarettes to. In fact, I think 16 years old was the legal age.

15. We Were Motivated To Quit When Our Brand Hit $45.00 A Carton (June 2002)..
... since then, we've saved enough to buy ourselves an RV and take a vacation to Seattle. We're about to apply this year's savings to either a new tow vehicle... or a new tow vehicle AND an RV upgrade.

At the three year mark, our savings will be over $14,000.00!!! What a collossal WASTE of money! I'm not lying... I'm not exaggerating... do the math!

52 weeks x 3 years = 156 weeks.
156 weeks x 2 cartons a week = 312 cartons
312 cartons x $45.00 a carton = $14,040.00

How odd that our motivation wasn't OUR OWN HEALTH... but the price. The fact that I feel better is just a bonus to the savings.

18. And That Was The "Discounted" COSTCO Price...
... that day I went to Costco to buy cigarettes and other assorted odds-n-ends.... but came home with NICOTINE PATCHES instead.

The new higher price was because a new Maryland tax had just gone into effect... so that was a good motivator to quit... but the patches definitely helped to ease the cravings and the nicotine withdrawal.

Honestly, I had NO DESIRE to quit smoking. I liked it. I LOVED it. Cigarettes were my friend. Very comforting and relaxing (even if they were stinky... I didn't care.) But since then I've come to realize that quitting smoking was one of the best things we've ever done for ourselves.

22. Yeah... But You Can Always Work It Off If It Bothers You Enough
... and carrying around an extra 20 pounds is far LESS unhealthy than continuing to smoke. Smoking is not a valid substitute for diet and exercise, right?

and yeah yeah I know, but ego kills me every time. I hated that extra weight, shoot, I'm still overweight and I've lost the 40 I gained from quitting. One of these days.....

26. I saw a billboard recently that said:
1 1/2 ppd x 5 years = $8,562

That would be enough to stop me cold. Good luck with quitting - I mean that. It's one of the hardest things I ever did.

28. I switched types of smokes.
I found a brand of little cigars that look and taste like name brand cigarettes. They are called Zee-Garelos and they cost $9.65 + tax a carton. There are several other brands in other parts of the country which are just as cheap and taste just as good.
