Do you like to do battle at the end of ebay auctions?

5. the item I am bidding on goes off at midnight
so I just upped my bid to the maximum amount I care to pay as I doubt I'll be awake at midnight!

Lets hope I win! :D

2. And do you sometimes like the battle more than the item?!

3. It's the only way to Ebay...
but sometimes I get outbid and there isn't enough time to raise the bid. Then I just suck it up, and start searching for another item.

My Father - In- Law called me a "sneaky sniper" once, when I told him that was how I "Ebay-ed". I just figure that most people Ebay that way.

4. When you're new you don't realize someone is going to sneak in during
the last minute, especially if you've been the only bidder. Now I make sure I am going to be available to be online for the close or I don't bid.

7. I was once on the phone with a friend who was bidding on a collector car
Edited on Sun Jan-23-05 07:22 PM by madison2000
from eBay motors. At the end of the auction we were talking on the phone and he asked me to bid up if someone else snuck in with less than fifteen seconds to go-- it was a few thousand dollars. Kinda scary, most stuff I bid on is a lot cheaper and I don't care that much if I lose!

8. That's the way to go if you really want an item
like certain high demand collectibles.

Otherwise, I simply bid the largest amount I'm willing to pay and leave it at that.

I have to admit I've used a sniping service, too. I started with one because of items closing when I was at work and couldn't access a computer or protect a bid.

I'd do that!

11. as a seller......
...I hate hate hate snipers. Sellers make less money when people wait until the bitter end to bid. E-Bay is really structured toward accommodating buyers, not sellers. In a live auction, bidding would go on until bidders stopped.

But when I buy, I sometimes bid toward the end.

I have an auction that ends at 7AM tomorrow. I will not be awake. What service have you used?

15. esnipe
That is the only one I have used, so I can't testify to the others. It is nice when I am not going to be around to think about late bidding, and it doesn't send the price up towards the end, so you end up usually getting it for a lower price.

21. It says on the FAQ page that you can't outbid yourself
http://www.esnipe.com/eSnipeFAQ/#6

The link should help you out. :)

16. always!
I have my max bid info entered & watch the auction in another tab. When it is down to 5 seconds, I hit submit.

That's 1/2 the fun for me.

19. Nope, I just put in my top price and let it go.
Life is too short. I've probably lost more auctions on ebay than anyone else. I just lost a Kate Spade bag. Oh well, on w/ the hunt.

22. Sure....
.... it's called sniping, and I do it on occassion.

Because of the fact that the current shown price does not reflect the last bidder's highest bid, it is not always easy to make it work :)
