family didn't name any of their kids Dick!!
Speaking of Candy Easter, I used to work with this poor woman named Mary Christmas. Yes, if you can believe her parents named her Mary, when they had the last name of Christmas! I don't know WHAT in the hell was wrong with them, but they condemned their poor daughter to a life of endless razzing and teasing. She actually couldn't wait to get married just to change her name, and she joked that she hoped she'd get married to someone named Smith.

I used to come across letters and reports with her name on them (it was her married name)
My friend's brother wanted to name their first child Justin. The problem was the family name is Kehs (pronounced Case). Everyone talked them out of it.
A good friend of mine's maiden name was Heine. Her sister hated it so much she went to court to change it. When she was dating one of the Temple basketball team's assistant coaches, John Cheney got on the phone and demanded to know if that was her real name. She was dating a guy named Ed Hickey, and we all wanted them to get married so that her married name could be Heine Hickey.

no BS....I found his name in the phone book, and we used to prank call him all the time.
His wife always used to say "Why all you kids keep botherin' my husband?" Apparently we weren't the only group of kids who called him.
Seriously....grab a Nashville white pages from around 1979-1983, and you'll see his name in there.
There was also a Carl Crappo, who we used to prank call all of the time, too.
I feel sorry for today's kids....with caller ID, then childhood right of passage that is crank calling is now gone.

Lots of kids named Phuc
Amber Waves
Third Corinthians
We had a family at our school with twins named Mercedes and Seville, and another set of twins in the same family are named Joie and Jodie. They have a sister named Hennessee and a brother named November.
There are also these name stories I have heard but don't know these kids:
twins named Twin A and Twin B twins - Lemonjello amd Orangejello
And this one is a classic - a little girl named Female, pronounced fuh-mall-ee. Mom claims the hospital named her.

the Third. Southerners don't have a lot of imagination in naming their children, it seems.
When I was in the Air Force the optometrist was Dr. Eyestone.
I have a friend whose last name is Bell. He said he has a cousin named Isadore.
During the 60's a lot of television shows had a credit for "Glen Glenn Sound".
During same period, there was an orchestra leader named Dick Hyman.

company, and I came across some real doozies from time to time. My absolute favorite has to be this poor kid who was born in 1977 and who was named Disco, middle name Leon. DISCO, for Christ's sake! Obviously, his parents were into the whole 70's disco scene, but did they have to torture their kid for life by naming him that? I wonder what kind of drugs they were on!
Another one was, and I kid you not, Lord Byron! Can you imagine that, naming your kid Lord Byron?????? Too bad they didn't move to England when he was little, his life would probably have been made a lot easier!

117. How about Velvet Jock or Long Duong? |
|
My aunt went to college with Velvet Jock. Now that is just SICK on the part of the parents. Can you imagine making it through high school with that one?
I worked with Long Duong. Cute, little Vietnamese guy. We used to get jerks calling the lab all of the time for him. He was listed in the Kodak phone book so when the guys on the floor were crusing through the phonebook on break they would have to give him a call to harass him. We had to explain it to him. He laughed and said, Oh No, is not true!
When Long's wife was pregnant we used to tease him and ask him what they were going to name the baby. Short? His wife barely spoke any English, but Long had taught her when she called to say, "Hello, may I speak to Long, Please?" This was fine if he was there, but if he wasn't she didn't get it and would keep repeating that phrase. After a while we would just say NO, and hang up. She made awesome egg rolls by the way.

but funny in German only.
There's an oncologist in Bremen who is called Dr. Krebsfänger - Dr. Cancer-Catcher (could also be translated as Dr. Crabcatcher, Crab and Cancer is the same word in German).
Browsing through a CD with all German phone numbers, I found many strange, embarassing or funny names, like (translated) "Pink Slip" (Rosa Schlüpfer), "Wanna Fuck" (Wilma Ficken) or "Death-Cinema" (Todeskino).

near my parental home called Colonel Fudpucker's. When my brother and I were little, it was a good device for doing some swearing in front of our parents and blaming it on a slip of the tongue.

I kid you not. It's an acquaintance's father. I also have a friend who was a school teacher and he had a student who's first name was TV Kitchen (apparently the mother's two favorite things).

I was a headhunter and I read resumes all the time, so I've seen some weird names, including an honest-to-goodness Wednesday Adams. But the funniest was F. Snookie Mucums. I never found out what the F stood for; presumably something so bad he'd rather be called Snookie. He had a MBA in Information Technology from Sanford, he had an impressive list of companies. And yet, his legal name was F. Snookie Mucums.

He was a bowler and often had to leave school early for tournaments.
I had the toughest time sitting in bio with Ray when his brother Jack was paged through the whole school intercom system:
Will Jack Orf kindly report to the office?

The first was a patient at a doctor's office where I was a temp. She had her name legally changed.
The other two are farmers we used to buy from when I was an ogranic food broker. The story with Ben HayHoe is that when his dad (or granddad?) moved to the US immigration couldn't pronounce or spell his name, so, as was common, they gave him a new one. They asked him what he did and he was a farmer.
I always wanted to ask him if he was naughty by nature - Hip Hop Hooray - Hoe - Hay - Hoe hee heeeee! ;)
