1. I dunno, man
Its like that in baseball for me too. The orioles were just one or two lucky thingies away from the world series when I was 9 and 10, and they havent been in the playoffs since. That bastard Deon Grant just got a touchdown btw :(.

2. When your team sucks all the time...
you know what to expect and you don't get your hopes up...the slow dripping pain of a shitty team numbs your senses. But when you have a good team that sucks in the playoffs, your emotions get fucked around with too much. It's like a dagger in your heart

4. Coming from an Eagles fan who has suffered the past three years.
I can tell you that overall I'd much rather get to the championship game and lose, even repeatedly, than just be an 8-8 or 9-7 team every year.

5. If they get to the playoffs and lose, that can be fixed
by adding the right player or two. Someone to fill that missing need and get them over the hump. You need to have a good GM and Coach to know what they need and evaluate players well. Teams that suck are just hopeless.

I think the worst is when you have a great team that plays well and just keeps running into the same all time great team in the playoffs. In another era or in another conference, they'd have won a championship or two. But they end up in the wrong place at the wrong time.

Some examples (almost / nemesis):
Blazers / Bulls
Knicks / Bulls
Red Sox / Yankees
Mets / Braves
Sixers / Celtics
