Anyone ever eat rice with butter and sugar? |
|
My dad always fixed it for me when I was a kid. I have started eating a bowl before bed... seems to help me sleep better...

I was raised in the American South, where this is considered a fantastic breakfast. And, rice pudding is another great treat - for a dessert.

8. that was how my mother served it when I was a kid. I never liked |
|
rice much until I discovered how wonderful it was with gravy!
Then I discovered chinese food, Mexican food and all the other wonderful foods that go with rice.
I never eat it w/butter and sugar anymore, unless you count Cream of Rice Cereal.

until I gave up rice and sugar. It does not seem to work well with artifical sweetener so for the moment I have given it up. Enjoy it. Mmmmmmm.

25. My "comfort foods" from growing up |
|
White rice with butter and a little salt (lots of butter)
Peanut butter and banana sandwiches (not fried like Elvis)
Navy beans with ham hocks
Fried Bologna sandwiches... take thin sliced round bologna, make cuts (4 at least) from the edge to about 1/2 the radius, fry in a hot pan with no grease (maybe a little "Pam"). Fry up two or three slices, put into a plain bread sandwich with mustard.
"fat bread"... broil stakes in an oven... dip bread into the collected drippings (this is a true heart attack special... not recommended)

sometimes I eat plain butter mixed with sugar though. Then again, my food habits are far from healthy or conventional.

I added cinnamon too. I agree with the helping you sleep thing. I have been either eating a bowl of cereal or something a little carb like before bed and I've been getting better sleep. Maybe I'll start doing the rice like you are and see how I do. :)

When I've got something where I'm having trouble keeping solids down, that's my favorite food. Brown sugar and short-grain rice, and leave the margarine to Con-Agra, though. It must be butter.

Parmesan (Parmigiano).
Lots of parmesan. Yummy.
But I'm doing Atkins now. I still use the cheese if the dish can even half-way justify it.

28. Never had it until my family moved to TX. |
|
It was at my elementary school cafeteria. They're spooning it on my plate and I'm thinking "mmmm, rice", already tasting the buttery, salty treat. I was horrified when I took my first bite and it tasted sweet. I guess I've never gotten over that shock because I love bread pudding, but to this day I can't eat rice with sugar.
