1. If they've had kittens, twice a year...
lasts about 2 weeks or so. If they haven't had kittens and/or aren't in a situation that allows them to mate, it's about once every other month or so for two weeks until they mate or are fixed.

Or so it was with one of my rentmate's cats who hadn't gotten fixed yet. My poor (fixed at 8 months old) boys were so tramatized by her; they had no clue what to do and kept running away and hiding from her.

4. It does seem rather bizarre because their personality can change so
drastically.

We bought a kitten and she was either older then they said or went into heat early. We had a dog and the kitten HATED the dog.

Well, after she went into heat, she loved the dog - female dog, nothing happened but the kitty sure got friendly with the dog who was in shock (the hissing, clawing fiend was all of a sudden very friendly, rubbing up against her and meowing like crazy).

The cat got fixed and the dog and cat lived happily ever after.

It actually was a good way to get the dog and cat over their "problems".

5. If the Females Don't Breed, They Go Back Into Heat Every Other Week
I went to the vet for advice, and he gave me a small device to be used as a 'probe' on my cat. I asked him, 'how do I use this?', to which he replied, 'you use it to simulate sex with your cat.' I never used it, however, since I couldn't figure out how to strap it on :silly:

8. 3 weeks out of the month
I would get about 4 nights of good sleep a month until I got her fixed. She also sprayed everything in my house, and I do mean EVERYTHING. When she sprayed my microwave, that was the last straw!
