Chicago has the nicest people in America! |
|
I was down in the Loop late yesterday afternoon and as I started up the stairs to the El platform I fell, tearing my pants and gashing my knee. This lady walking by--- a total stranger--- saw me fall and hurt myself, and she came over and asked if I was OK. As soon as she saw my knee, she told me to stay put while she went to get her car, telling me that she would give me a ride home. She came back and picked me up, gave me some Handi-Wipes and Kleenexes to kinda clean up my knee and drove me to the front door of my dorm, me having already declined her offer to take me to a hospital.
Before I got out of the car, I offered her some money for gas, because I'm sure she wasn't intending to drive this far out of her way; when I did, she declined and said, "You're the same age as my son, and if he'd fallen and hurt himself like you have, I'd hope someone would offer HIM a ride home." I've been to most major cities in America, and I just can't see this happening anywhere but in Chicago, based on my personal experiences.
I don't even know your full name or where you live, but Dianne, you're the BEST! A million thanks!
:D

1. I've always loved Chicago |
|
I've never had a bad experience there. The people are sort of a mix between midwest politeness and big city mentality. It works. Some of my friends from Chicago and I were talking about it one time and it came up that they thought if someone was rude to you they weren't from Chicago (ie had must moved there to work etc) but most are from the midwest and are good people.

2. Everyone I've met here has just been super nice. |

I'm a city kid, so the 'city stuff' doesn't put me off. The people here are friendly, unusually polite and helpful to strangers. I'm glad I chose to come here.

At least the parts I went to. I mean not like sparkling or anything, but nice. Green trees, nice buildings. Just a generally enjoyable place.

The lack of trash and absence of grime is nice, too.

5. Richard Speck notwithstanding... |

Seriously, I love the city. I wasn't crazy about Mayor Daley's pigs bashing war protestors in 1968 but past that, the city is a mecca for a lot of people in that part of the country.
When I'm there I love to go the the Unabridged Books shop on Broadway.
