what is "pardon me" supposed to mean?
don't make fun of me because i'm stupid, but i've never understood what that's supposed to mean.

I've always just used "HUH?" or "WHAT?" or "come again?" or "speak up, sonny"... or my all time favorite... "QUIT MUMBLING, DAMMIT!"

am i wierd? Why should I be asking to be pardoned, when it's clearly the OTHER person's fault for not speaking clearly??
