Is reality television?

The idea was to purchase the trusted brand names of America's fine journalistic institutions and use the fifty years of credibility they had established, that is, the authority they had as purveyors of reliable facts, to distribute psychological munitions that would allow them to do whatever they wanted brashly, publicly and conveniently, while shorting out any public opposition that might result by driving everyone in the country bat-shit insane.

1. A notch alarmist but
he makes some interesting points.

The puny, fake-ass opposition that receives massive, constant publicity dwarfs and crushes the real opposition through a process of filling the majority of citizens that hate Bush's lying guts with the feeling that they are alone and therefore probably wrong.

Sounds like he is talking about Alan Colmes.

He puts a lot of faith in the ability of TV to brainwash people and makes this out as a recent development. Yet, one need only think back to how the endless parade of "___-gate" news items failed to bring down Clinton. During impeachment proceedings, Clinton's approval rating approached 80% and yet with all the fawning coverage for Bush, Bush sits at 49%. This seems to defy his argument.

2. Umm You
He said Bush's support is an illudsion
And he also said that letting a few "liberals" on bolsters the illusion so I think 49% serves the illusion well.

3. Brainwashing works
but it has limits. I used to work on major ad campaigns. I crunched the numbers to see how many and which kind of people were brainwashed, how much brainwashing it took and how much the brainwashing costs.

Sprint kicked MCI's ass but spent ~$100 million doing it. But MSN (Microsoft) had a horrible response rate, even with reasonably good memorable ads (the butterfly costume). TV is much better at reinforcing attitudes than at changing them to their polar opposite.

The MSM have spent a good deal of their credibility. When propaganda is seen as such it has far less power.

4. It isn't just TV
Doing it,It's refeclected in how we are brought up,our"culture" the rightwing infltrates church and it is working out nicely for the authoritarian types.
The authoritarians and sociopaths leading companies and institiutions are not seen as the sick narciassistic parasitic bullies and cheaters "on top"..These "leaders" are not percieved as the threat that they are are to peace, civility, humanity ,equality and democracy and sanity itself,in this societySadly, instead by contrived ignorance and cultural engineering,'leaders'are rendered as a part of the "normal"social landscape and people think there is no other option but to go along, accept these corrupted leaders in a 'mass' way.Even though individuals might complain and resent them they do not mobilize to disobey or overrule the "leader".Why? Is it because they are taught to be more like lizards than people? Is it because TV and business as usual, and mass denial about things like child abuse, church abuse, manipulation ect..has been denied even though it does effect people, reality sculpted by developing and encouraging thier reptile tendances for years?.
What is all this freedom worth if it's all just talk, and it only leads to obeying, deference,to leaders..Is freedom free if "nessecity" overrides human compassion, justice, peace or freedom itself as the abuse, misery and exploitation of others goes on unchallenged, ignored, minimized, rationalized, excused, distracted, denied?

People are crazy, and it is the crazy game of winnners and losers, the game of sucess, the ravages of private abuses in hopes and insituitions companies and military and insane injustice treated as if it was justice,,brainwashing, bullies going unchallenged, and the ever present but unseen command,of follow the leader alongside the mental closing off of other options,(the bigoted cynics) that has made it so.
