from Dustin Hoffman…
January 24, 2005 2:19 PM EST

LONDON - Dustin Hoffman flew into London, and denied reports that he planned to settle in Britain permanently.

{snip}

"I was doing some publicity…in the states, and one of the things they asked was don't I have a place in London? I said, `Yes, for 25 years, but we haven't been able to use it as much as we want because we didn't like to separate from the kids. So with five kids over the past 35 years, I've lived my life scheduled around the school year. The last kid is in the house, she graduates in five months and I'm going to get to London as soon as I can and finally make use of the place.'

"That turned into: `I'm moving to get away from (President) Bush,'" Hoffman said.

He added: "That's silly. You can't go anywhere in the world to get away from Bush."

2. I think Germany would be a good place
to get away from our entire war criminal government. None of them can travel there.

3. When I was reading this article I knew where it was going, and said
to myself, no matter where you move you can't escape Bush. Then voila, Hoffman said it.

I have loved him since The Graduate. Right after The Graduate he did a play on Broadway called Jimmy Shine. I was in High School at that time and went to see the play with a friend of mine. It was a Thanksgiving performance. When the play was over my friend Mary wanted to see if she could get his autograph. We went to the stage door, and he was surrounded by fans. As he was getting into the limo I called his name, and he looked at me. I told him I thought he had been great in the show. He grabbed my hand and wished me a Happy Turkey, then left.

A few years later I worked for a law firm on Madison Ave in Manhattan, and for about a month I would see him on my way to work. We were on the same schedule and he would go into the building next door. In the beginning we would grin at each other, then it became Good Morning. It was very cool. :)
