Famous F__ Hags Through Time |
|
Okay, as a F__ Hag myself I've noticed that Haggery has some astounding roots. Who are your favorite historical Hags?
Josephine Baker. Totally. WAAAAAYY too fabulous not to be a Hag.
Marie Antoinette. Let them eat cake, let me hang out with gays.
Joan of Arc. Never asked, never told.

1. Can I get a definition? |
|
I'm trying to find a common thread among those three women and I can't.
How do I know if I am one or not?

4. They were fabulous women who weren't at all uptight |
|
And, come to think of it, they were all French.
Okay, how about Julie Andrews, star of Victor/Victoria (my favorite movie when I was growing up)

10. How do you know YOU are one? |
|
I guess that's what I was asking. I guess some people who know me might think I'm fabulous and I'm definitely not uptight. Does that make me one?

31. I was a teenaged Fag Hag |
|
My mom's an artist and my folks were involved in the local community theater, so I grew up knowing a lot of creative and artistic type people. About the time I was old enough to understand sex, I realized that a good number of these family friends were in relationships with people of the same gender. I remember telling a friend of mine about Mike and his husband George and my friend said, "EW! They're fags! Don't you think that's SICK?" and I thought about it and realized, no, it's not sick. Mike and George had a great house and were much better cooks than my mom. George liked working on cars as much as my dad AND he played piano. No, Mike and George weren't sick- they were COOL. And that's when it started.
We also had a older lesbian couple as neighbors, and these ladies taught me how to sew and knit and cook, and later how to apply make-up and walk in heels. When my grandmother was dying and my mom was falling apart, they looked after my brother and I. They taught me more about being "feminine" than my straight mother ever did.
I'm predisposed to liking gay and lesbian people now, as a result of my early upbringing. I've always had a lot of gay friends, and about the time I was in college, I realized that the term "Fag Hag" fit me pretty nicely. I guess I'm just a little bit fabulous too.

Of course, back in the old days, when gay people had to hide for fear of being beaten and murdered, there weren't a lot of records on who was a Hag and who wasn't.

Not sure what you'd call them, other than (in the context of this thread) a reverse posse.
