I'm always tempted to ask some claiming that they were spanked all the time as a child and they turned out O.K., "If your parents were moved to spank you repeatedly, is it possible that the spanking was not very effective? It didn't seem to have taught you much..."

Not done when my parents were red hot mad at me either.

The times I was spanked, I had really done something over-the-top bad and I knew it. And let me tell you, a few times when I was contemplating being really bad--I reconsidered my actions, because I knew it was 'spanking material' and I didn't want to go there.

I never felt abused or that it harmed my psyche or anything.

I've seen a few kids raising hell in the grocery store who clearly didn't understand that a spanking was even in the realm of what could happen to them (because it clearly was not). I've seen some placed in "time out" and they LAUGHED at their parent. Sheesh.
