Whiskey is lovely stuff, is it not?
Edited on Mon Jan-24-05 06:53 PM by Padraig18
The delicate, amber color... that peaty, smoky taste... that pleasant warmth that starts in your belly and doesn't stop until it reaches your fingertips. Ahhhh, poteen, lovely poteen!

22. The word whiskey comes from the irish phrase Uisce Beatha
Which is pronounced "Ishca baha" and means "water of life". The English couldn't say Uisce Beatha so it became whiskey.

So we changed the name to claret (less obvious change there).

43. I like Johnny Walker Black. One time, a friend better than I deserve got..
Me a bottle of Johnnie Walker Blue for my birthday. Oh jesus.

I know the single malts are supposed to blow away the blends, but Johnnie Walker does it just right. Not too sweet, not too peaty, just right. And that Blue stuff is the crack of blended scotches.

19. Dude, don't ever start chugging liquor
Edited on Mon Jan-24-05 06:55 PM by DS1
You're going to at some point anyway, so I hope the first night of heaves is enough.

Chug pepsi, chugging liquor is a waste, is stupid, and can leave you dead.

So take a lesson from too many Harvard kids, go easy on the spirits.

And no :spank: Guiness is not whiskey

The Irish form of White Lightnin? That shit will fuck your teeth up on the way down and try to kill you on the way back up.

Go carefully there, lad! All the poteen I've ever had has been DEADLY if mishandled. Now if you're talking Bushmill's or Jameson's, that's quite another story.

30. I love Whiskey
I can't decide which I like better - scotch, whiskey, or bourbon.

When it comes to whiskey, I'm Jack Daniel's all the way. Nothing compares. Definitely the best bang for your buck.

I've found that Jim Beam bourbon is excellent. The 1.75 L bottle for $20 is the best deal in town. If you really want the best bourbon, try Booker's. It's somewhere close to 130 proof. It's actually made by the grandson of James B. Beam. A more moderately priced one is Maker's Mark. It's better than Beam, but a bit more expensive.

Johnnie Walker is the only scotch I've ever had. Frankly, it wasn't worth the price. I prefer the taste of whiskey and bourbon.

41. Had a reunion with
some fraternity brothers this weekend (alumni board).

Much like when we were in college, we imbibed too much -- but our palattes are so much better.

Makers was there, Gentleman Jack, and Glenlevit... no mixers allowed.

It was a good evening, catching up with friends, but now I remember why I slowed down my drinking -- recovery is a b*tch when you get older.
