I just acted as if I didn't know anything important was going on. We have televisions on all over the office (we're in the broadcast industry) and people would ask "what do you think about that?" Or "did you hear/see 'XXXX'"?
And I would say "about what?" and act as if I didn't realize what was going on.
When they said "You know, the inauguration" I would answer "Oh, that's right. That's today isn't it?" Then I would go back to work.
Drove them nuts and I enjoyed every minute of it. Also, pretending I didn't care helped me actually not care, at least while I was at the office.
