1. OMG -- I'm getting old!
I knew every song on that list. Of course, it helps when you have a dad that was a dj AND owned a record store, doesn't it?

I was eight and those were some "rockin' tunes".

Thanks for the walk down memory lane. Feel free to pm those weekly updates anytime. Ahhh... to be a kid again!

3. Thanks
I post them every once in a while. You can see all the WABC surveys from 1960 (when they became a Top 40 powerhouse) to 1982 (when they became a talk radio sewer) here:

4. It Was a Lot More Diverse
You could have The Beatles, Tony Bennett, Louie Armstrong, and Johnny Cash all on the same survey.

5. THE SILVER DOLLAR SURVEY....I collected them every week
Edited on Mon Jan-24-05 11:29 PM by Gloria
Picked them up at Sam Goody and my local record shop. They were the size of an 8 X 11 sheet of paper, cut in half lengthwise....

Dan Ingram, Scott Muni....remember the Elmhurst Tanks??

And don't forget WMCA (B. Mitchell Reed RULED) and the Good Guys and WINS with Murray the K, all you submarine racewatchers out there....

6. Before It Was the "Silver Dollar Survey"
...it was the "Good Guy Survey", and the WABC DJs were "The Good Guys". When WMCA stole that bit, WABC started calling their DJs the "All-Americans".

I also remember the Palisades Amusement Park commercials, a sure sign that summer was coming:

Palisades has the rides
Palisades has the fun,
Come on over

Shows and parking are free
So's the parking, so gee,
Come on over

Palisades from coast to coast
Where a dime buys the most
Palisades Amusement Park
Swings all day, and after dark

(Bump-da-bump-bump-bump)

Ride the coaster, get cool
In the waves in the pool
You'll have fun, so come on over.

(Bump-da-bump-bump-bump - BUMP)

Palisades Park closed in 1970, and I still remember that song....

9. I Used to Be an Oldies DJ
In bars back in NJ. I used to close each night by saying the following: "They say every old song reminds someone of another time, a special place, or a special person. If just one song I played tonight made one person think back and smile, then my time here tonight was worthwhile."
