Okay. The British accent. |
|
Now, most of us Americans can try to simulate the way Brits speak. But it seems to me that when I try, I am doing the mouth and throat Olympics while attempting to pronounce words the way they do. It must hurt for them to have that accent. Its not natural.
Just try to say "what" they way they do. You've got to open your throat down deep and practically gag yourself to get that "awwt" sound.
Its not right, I tell you.
And don't tell me that for them to simulate American accents would pose the same problem for them, because the mouth and throat can be relaxed while speaking American accents.

But I didn't know that you knew I wasn't talking about Madonna, since you talked about her and then asserted that even though you supposedly knew that I wasn't talking about Madonna, you started talking about her British accent, which is the subject of my post, as opposed to Madonna.

5. My British friends have told me in the past that if they hear me trying |
|
to do a British accent, they'll kill me. For my own good. I do have some good moments though. I got much better after being there for several months. Connie Booth is an American with a good British accent. See 'Fawlty Towers' And there are several British accents from a posh RP to an impoverished Souf London. And the North to Plymouth. A lot of Americans mix them in a sentence and it sounds bad.
Some Brits make terrible American accents. They end up sounding too nasally, or throw a bad Texas accent in there, which make my ears bleed when I watch BBC sometimes. Jonny Lee Miller does an excellent northwest American accent. See 'Hackers'
