|
Study hard get good grades find out what interests you and thank God, Allah, the tree in the front yard, thank whatever you want to thank(parents are always important) that you will not be graduating from college with $150,000 in debt while trying to start out your life. Jr. college is one way that education has become affordable. You will meet lots of new people, it will be great.

I went to a commuter school in Boston and met some great friends that I still keep in touch with today.

The large crowds of people who are clogging up my NOVA library computers in groups looking at anime and Korean pop stars and other groups sitting around chatting, there's nothing wrong with the social life here.
And as someone mentioned, there's always sex in cars -- Annandale has a huge parking lot, and now that we're so goddamn underfunded that they have one contract security officer around after 5 pm rather than our lovely sworn campus officers with guns, there's little chance of you getting caught.

Change what you're really unhappy with...and learn to deal with what you can't change.
I hope you'll reconsider your regret for "being a little too shy". That sounds like a key element of who you are...not something you can make a conscious decision to change.

19. You know what's funny |
|
When we're young we always beat ourselves up because we're not cool, not fun, not getting all the guys or gals. It's usually because we're nice, mannerly, decent human beings.
So we decide to change. And we become shitheads. Then, when we get old, we regret that.
Don't toss aside your basic sense of self as you move into the bigger world. Hell, I wish I could just wrap you up and take you all over the country and say "This is the shining example of the best of the American youth". :loveya:

my mom was always shy in a really self concious kind of a way. she worried alot and was withdrawn, and very depressed. i was a great deal more like her when i was younger, very shy. my dad was really warm and outgoing and had a much happier life than she did. my father and i were very close and he was the biggest influence in my life, but i had to make a concious decision to force myself to be more like him. it's not always easy, i geek out still sometimes, but it feels better to me when i don't.

Fort Monroe, VA -- just outside Hampton. arwalden could've thrown a tastefully organic rock from his childhood home and bounced it off my barracks. John Anyhow, you don't need to drive -- we just have to find someone from the greater Baltimore/Washington metroplex to give you a ride 700 miles to the soiree. And then, of course, assign someone else to keep an eye on you for the day (I have a reputation, such as it is, to uphold).
