Is In My Life the best Beatles song? |
|
Sure there are many that are as catchy, more that more profound, but this song really takes a twenty something romantic look at life.....
Really....

3. There are places I remember |
|
All my life Though Some have changes...
Some forever not for better Some have gone and some remain..
All these places had their moments With lovers and Friends I do recall....
Some are dead and some are living In my life I loved them all.....
But all these Friends and lovers There is no one compares with you
Although I know i will loose affection For people and things that went before....... I know I'll often stop to think about them But in my life, I'll love you more....

2. The Bette Midler cover is sublime |
|
I came across the Bette Midler cover of "In my life" recently. I now play the Beatles version and Bette Midler's version back to back, then hit the repeat button to hear them both over again. Same for "Desparado" by the Eagles followed by the Carpenters cover.

not because it was the best they ever did, it wasn't, but because they showed everyone that rock couldn't be confined. They wrote, and recorded this song a year before the Stones did Paint it Black. Everyone, except maybe Brian Wilson, launched their "new sound" after that.

|
...drunk, or in an otherwise chemically-altered state, "I am the Walrus" is.

is my favorite. I listened to it after John died, and never listened to another Beatles record after that.

we played this song at my wedding, I danced with one of my brothers to it. It should have been the "father daughter dance" but my father died ten years ago, so I had both brothers walk me down the isle. But, to get back on topic, it is definitly in my top ten of Beatle's songs.

11. What Beatles song ISN'T the best Beatles song? |
|
Christ, they're all great. Couldn't bear to be without any of them.
If you hold a revolver ( ) to my head, I'd choose "Eleanor Rigby" as a perfect composition.

8th graders at a school I taught at to be sung at their graduation. This was in the 1980s, at least 15 years after it was released. Says something about staying power.
And it is one of my favorites, but I'm a big Hey, Jude and A Day in the Life fan too, along with Lennon's Dylan inspired You've Got to Hide Your Love Away.

that are my absolute most favorite Beatles tune. All depends on what I feel like at the time. If I were pressed maybe I could decide on one at some particular moment but a few hours later it would probably be something else.

|
A Girl, comes to mind as does I've just seen a face, But the reason I picked up on In My Life, is that as wee get older and wiser, it tis the song that will carry the most sentimental value for us. JL hit that one right on the head.....
