2. "Learn to be Lonely"
Wasn't that from the original vomit-inducing Weber musical? If so, how can it be nominated for Original Song?

4. Happy Surprises
Edited on Tue Jan-25-05 09:00 AM by Kire
Clint Eastwood - Best Director and Best Actor
Jamie Foxx - Best Actor and Best Supporting Actor
Kate Winslet - Best Supporting Actress for "Eternal Sunshine" (a movie release very early last year -- still one of my faves, her performance especially)
Morgan Freeman rocked!

8. I think Foxx will win
for "Collateral" of the two - it would be awesome to see Cheadle win Best Actor, but it might go to Eastwood in one of those "career recognition" things. That's not really a bad thing in Eastwood's case, but there you go.

16. Maybe the Academy decided to just forego all the
political BS by not nominating either film.

Who knows, who cares.

BTW, who's hosting the show this year?

Edited on Tue Jan-25-05 10:31 AM by Kellanved
Documentaries shown on TV within of 9 months of their theatrical release can't be nominated.

Edit: that rule only applies for documentaries.

22. The Academy is really shying away from controversy this year.
I'm a little surprised that both Fahrenheit 09/11 or The Passion of Christ is more or less shut out...only a music score nomination for "Passion"

Otherwise, pretty safe choices.

My quick guess is that "The Aviator" will win Best Picture, Jamie Foxx Best Actor, Hillary Swank Best Actress and Martin Scorcese Best Director.

23. LOL Fundies would throw a hissy fit if they watched
As it is in heaven, talk about analogies to the political situation in the US and real message of Christianity and Christ...

Funny really, yesterday the Swedish movie awards "The Golden Bug" took place and this film was nominated in 8 categories, but won none!?

Good film though, I give it four DU out of a possible five.

28. My Happy Surprise--NO Meryl Streep!
Goddam, she blows her nose and they give her one. Not a fan--she's a really big, hammy actress who never hits the right notes.

Awful surprises--Clint Eastwood--haven't seen Million Dollar Baby, but I think his movies suck--one of the worst directors around. Never could act, and I doubt he finally figured out how to now.

And how could Liam Neesam NOT be nominated?

Jamie Foxx was nominated for "Collateral"...but ol' Tom wasn't. :-)

I was curious as to why Liam Neeson wasn't nominated, also. It was a very good performance.

37. I didn't think we had to worry about that! Still, you never can tell who
they're gonna nominate.

Didn't see Collateral. Heard Jamie was good, but I'm not sure if he'll win for this, or for Ray. Probably Ray, because without Liam, his stiffest competition will be Leo, and I don't think they'll give it to him.

It's so nice for him to be nominated. :D It would be so nice for him to win one after so many years of superior performances. :D

But, I'm afraid this is Jamie Foxx's year. *sigh*
