Anyone else ever seen a movie called "What Happened Was"?
Was snowed in this Saturday afternoon and watched a movie called "What Happened Was" on Sundance.

WOW!!! Now, that's an awkward first date!

Looked on Sundance's website to see if there will be any more showings, but unfortunately the one I saw was the last they'll have for a while (unless they're only lising the January showings for now and maybe it will also appear in February): http://www.sundancechannel.com/popup/index.php?ixFilmID=3667

I liked this movie so much I thought I'd go on Amazon to see about the DVD--turns out there isn't one, just a VHS. This REALLY ought to be on DVD. I'd buy it in a heartbeat!

There's a pretty good customer review on the Amazon page for the VHS of the movie, as well: http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/6303961703/qid%3D1106669647/sr%3D11-1/ref%3Dsr%5F11%5F1/103-7799150-3562247

Seriously, if you get a chance, watch this movie. For the first five minutes or so it seemed a little mundane, but boy did that change!

Anyone else see it?

2. Yes, I've seen it a couple of times. I wasn't blown away.
It was very strange. Interesting, though. I didn't care for the way it ended...seems that even though he was deciding to let his defenses down and consider going out with her for real, she wasn't biting, choosing instead to stay inside her cocoon and not forgive him for being, well, him. Is that how you took the end? Or did you get an idea that maybe they'd go out again?

SEMI-SPOILER ALERT but I'm responding to someone asking about the ending. Don't read the rest of this post if you're planning to see the movie.

No, they weren't going to go out, again. At first it seemed like he was the one "slumming" and "dating down". He had this lofty intellectual veneer to him and she seemed more simple and into prosaic pop music and whatnot, but as the date wore on it became apparent she was actually the "deep" one, and she was looking for a kindred spirit and thought he was it.

But, when he stopped pretending to be a confident writer and all the other things and revealed he was just a scared guy who watches television and doesn't know what to do with his life (and they were both too long in the tooth for that), she realized how wrong she was about him. She had been taken in by his act. The person she thought he was didn't exist and the person he really was wasn't a person she had anything in common with, after all. She was the one who was striving for something out of life, not him. He was lost. She was still struggling.

6. I might have to see it again.
I saw it a few years ago but I didn't expect it to be quite so dark. I'll have to make an adjustment and sit through it again one day.

...the first few minutes I was debating whether to switch it off. The opening lulled me into thinking it was going to be something bland. But once she let him inside the apartment and they started trying to interact, you could see this was going to get interesting.

9. And just think...
...once that weekend was over, she'd have the continuing sight of him at her job to look forward to...
