4. We pagans are looking forward to the "Rapture"
We were here long before the Apocalyptic folk and we'll be here long after they've gone to their respective "heavens."

5. Lol
They should maybe come up with a thing like the tombstone for DU. "Raptured" and a picture of a pair of empty shoes laying on the ground. Then if we notice someone is missing, we can check to see if they got "raptured".

3. You Don't Think Those Heretics are Going to be Taken, Do You?
They'll all be here, suffering in the tribulation.

6. Unfortunately, I don't think the Crystal Cathedral folks .....
are into the Rapture. Their website is all about positive thinking.

While this may not be your style of worship (it's not mine), these guys are not the fanatics who hope for the End of the World. They want people to live & be successful & send money!

The building was designed by Philip Johnson, responsible for several excellent projects here in Houston.

9. Good architect but has supported Nazi philosophies
All my contemporaries at college loved his work but we were never told much about his r/w past.

<snip>

Between 1932 and 1940, Johnson was an antisemite, fascist
sympathizer, and active propagandist for the Nazi government. The discipline of architecture has been largely silent on the issue of Johnson’s right-wing past even though Johnson’s political activities have long been the subject of gossip and plenty of material existed prior to the publication of the Schulze book. Johnson wrote extensively for right-wing organizations during the 1930s and his activities were covered in contemporary publications as well as in more recent histories of prewar movements in the extreme-Right.

14. I hadn't heard that--most unfortunate.
However, Philip Johnson's first patrons in Houston were the John & Dominique De Menil. He built their house--International Style in stodgy, monied River Oaks. They hired him to design St Thomas University & the Rothko Chapel. His later commissions, some of our finer skyscrapers, sprang from the De Menils introducing him to the city.

Patrons of the arts, the De Menils also fought for Civil Rights & real spirituality; they brought the Dalai Lama to Houston. With Jimmy Carter, they founded the Carter-Menil Human Rights Foundation.

Here's the Rothko Chapel: www.rothkochapel.org/index.htm

And the Menil Museum--not designed by Johnson, but we Texans like to brag: www.menil.org

In brief--if the De Menils thought Philip Johnson should be forgiven for his past, so do I.

(By the way, this follower of the arts in Houston has never noted any involvement by the Bush family. That's from sponsoring "high" art galas to hearing Lightnin' Hopkins play the blues.)

7. hope there's a Rapture Appeals Committee...
...there's bound to be a shitload of marginal cases. How about those disappointed believers who are not raptured upwards to nicey nicey land and want their cases reviewed, or gits like me who might end up there and ask if they can go to the "other" place. Get a few key angels, a couple of character witnesses and allow Gawd to chair the hearing.

Think fundies...how are you going to deal with marginal cases?

Gotta go...it's Burns' Night and my haggis is almost ready.

8. Only 44,000 I think
I recall reading that only 44,000 are going to be raptured. (No I don't have a link -I'm only relying on my middle aged memory here).

I would think in this day and age they would already have a list going.
