YakTrax?

My postman swears by them.

"The Yaktrax® traction device offers effective traction and confidence during the winter. Designed to fit over different shoes, the Yaktrax features a special SkidLock coil system that becomes embedded in ice/snow with each step for superior traction."

They're around $19.00 and you can get them a lot of different places (try Google and you'll get a lot places that sell them).

5. Got something similar
and they came in handy after 2 ice storms in 2 weeks. They allow me to be able to do my outside job.

8. It seems to be a non-secret 'secret weapon' among
postal carriers, UPS, and other people who have to walk through ice and snow on their jobs.

15. I think I might get a pair
I don't live far from work and I'd really rather not wear boots all day, so these would be nice

17. An Alternative
I bought something called Polar Cleats. Pulls over your shoes as well. Only the rivits have squashed a bit after a lot of walking on hard surfaces. I looked at Yak Trax, then read some reviews. Great when on the icy stuff; slippery on dry surfaces - so say some reviewers.
